The Indianapolis Colts on Friday signed undrafted free agent tight end Mo Alie-Cox, a former Virginia Commonwealth basketball player.

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound Alie-Cox was a four-year standout on the VCU basketball team. He worked out for 30 of the 32 NFL teams earlier this month.

The Colts said in their announcement that although Alie-Cox has not played football since his freshman year in high school, he possesses the athleticism to make the transition from basketball to football similar to Indianapolis tight ends Erik Swoope and Marcus Pollard, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates and Seattle tight end Jimmy Graham.

Alie-Cox averaged 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds last season at VCU.
