Vikings waive ex-Nebraska QB Armstrong

The Minnesota Vikings on Friday waived former Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong, an undrafted rookie trying to make the team as a safety.

The Vikings signed Armstrong in May to take a look at him as a safety prospect. He participated in six practices during organized team activities and three during this week's mandatory minicamp.

Armstrong passed for 3,030 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Cornhuskers in 2015, followed by 2,180 yards and 14 TDs last season.

"I think I can bring something to the (Vikings) on the defensive side of the ball and to special teams," Armstrong said last month. "I'll do whatever it takes to play in the NFL."
