Why Would I Possibly Be Sad About Aaron Hernandez?

By Mike Sullivan

Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez has died after hanging himself in his prison cell early Wednesday, Massachusetts prisons officials said. Hernandez was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction and just days ago was acquitted of a double murder.

Prison guards found Hernandez, 27, unresponsive in his cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley just after 3 a.m., Department of Correction spokesman Christopher Fallon said in a statement.

The former New England Patriots tight end was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial-HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster about an hour later.

Here are some more details in case you’re wondering.

First off, there’s no sign of any suicide note left behind. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population-housing unit in the maximum security state prison. He hanged himself using a bed sheet that he attached to a cell window, Fallon said. Hernandez also tried to block the cell door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.

This apparent suicide is met with much speculation. Hernandez's former agent, Brian Murphy, said Wednesday morning there was "absolutely no chance" Hernandez took his own life. "Chico was not a saint, but my family and I loved him and he would never take his own life," Murphy said.

Ironically, Hernandez's death comes on the same day the Patriots are making their visit to the White House to mark their Super Bowl win. "We are aware of the reports, but I don't anticipate that we will be commenting today," a Patriots spokesman told ESPN on Wednesday morning.

Wow where do I possibly begin!?

First off, this story is a true tragedy. I don’t think we’ve ever seen something quite like this and we probably never will again. I mean think about it for a second… He was literally an NFL star who was also a serial killer. He’s also rumored to be linked to several more unsolved murders. Simply put, he was not a good dude.

A lot of people believe that Hernandez’s tipping point came when he was a teenager and his father died. Some say that he completely changed and went off the edge.

Regardless of what happened, I cannot feel sorry for a murderer. I cannot have sympathy for someone who went around killing people.

I received some text messages this morning from many different friends asking me about my reaction to this situation. One friend even said he was “sad” that Hernandez died and that I was being way too “harsh” because I didn’t have any sympathy.

Uhhh… Why would I have sympathy for a murderer? I’m supposed to feel sad that Hernandez is dead? Not happening.

I’m sad for his family, I’m certainly said for all the victims, but I’m in no way shape or form sad that Hernandez is dead. He was not a good person, he did terrible things that no human being should ever do. No matter what.

Aaron Hernandez was truly a maniac and, to be honest with you, the world is a better place without him.
