Blues' Bortuzzo fined for cross-checking Isles' Nelson

St. Louis Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was fined $3,091.40 by the NHL for cross-checking New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson during Monday afternoon's game in Brooklyn.

The amount is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement.

Bortuzzo took exception to Nelson colliding with Magnus Paajarvi away from the puck during the second period. He cross-checked Nelson to the ice from behind and then repeated the move twice more as the Islanders forward attempted to get to his feet.

The 28-year-old Bortuzzo was whistled for a four-minute double minor.

Nelson, who was not injured on the play, logged 11:11 of ice time in his team's 3-2 shootout loss.
