Devils acquire D Mueller from Sharks

The New Jersey Devils acquired defenseman Mirco Mueller in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

The Sharks get a 2017 second-round (49th overall) and fourth-round (123rd overall) draft selection from the Devils in exchange for Mueller and a 2017 fifth-round (143rd overall) pick.

"We want to thank Mirco for his years of service to the San Jose Sharks and the San Jose Barracuda organizations," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "This will be an excellent opportunity for Mirco to continue his development and with our organization's depth on the blueline, an opportunity for us to acquire assets for the future. We wish him the best."

Mueller, 22, was with the Sharks' organization since being selected in the first round (18th overall) in the 2013 NHL draft. He spent the last three seasons splitting time with the Sharks and their American Hockey League affiliate.

Last season, Mueller appeared in four games with the Sharks, scoring one goal with an assist. He also skated in 62 games with the Barracuda, notching two goals and 18 assists and adding five assists in 15 Calder Cup playoff contests. In 54 career NHL games with San Jose from 2014-2017, he recorded two goals, four assists and 17 penalty minutes.
