The penultimate match of the Bundesliga Matchday 30 will take place at Schwarzwald-Stadion, where SC Freiburg (12-5-12) will meet Bayer Leverkusen (10-6-13). In the reverse played in December at BayArena, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw. Freiburg SC were up 0-1 at halftime, but the second half was all about the hosts as Hakan Calhanoglu leveled the things in the 60th minute. Leverkusen were awarded a penalty in the last minutes of the match, but Freiburg’s keeper stopped Chicharito’s effort.
The hosts are enjoying the current Bundesliga campaign since they occupy the 6th position with 41 points. Reaching UEFA Europa League would be a tremendous success for Freiburg and they will be looking to maintain the tiny advantage over the other contenders as the season is coming to a close. On the other side, the guests are having a disappointing season, both international and in the domestic league. Leverkusen achieved a moderate success in UEFA Champions League when they reached 1/8-finals, but Atletico Madrid swiftly ended their European journey. In Bundesliga, they are sitting in the lower part of the table in the 12th position as they were able to collect only 36 points from 29 fixtures.
Leverkusen are in the horrible form in the last two months - they managed to win only one game in the last eight Bundesliga outings, so it can’t be a surprise that Bayer Leverkusen are closer to the relegation play-off spot than UEFA zone. Last Sunday, they welcomed Bayern Munich at BayArena. Somehow they managed to fight off the weakened Bavarians, even in the last 30 minutes when they were down to ten men as Jedvaj picked up his second yellow. Leverkusen played 14 times on the road this season, managing to return with only 16 points; they were beaten on 9 occasions, only one game ended without a winner while they won 5 meetings. In 5 out of their last 6 games in the domestic league, there were 2 or fewer goals scored.

The hosts suffered a bitter defeat in Leipzig in the previous round, when the Red Bulls sealed their appearance in next season’s Champions League. At crowded Red Bull Arena, Poulsen put his team up front in the 36th minute, only to assist to his teammate Timo Werner five minutes later. In the following 45 minutes, Keita and Demme sealed Freiburg’s fate in Leipzig. SC Freiburg will be looking for the full prize on Sunday, but they need one of their best performances since they won only one out the last four outings at Schwarzwald-Stadion.
1. Over the last 5 games between SC Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen, there were 2.2 goals on average.
2. In the last three meetings between the two sides, there were under 2.5 goals scored.
3. Niederlechner is SC Freiburg’s super sub who managed to score nine goals despite he started every match from the bench.
SC Freiburg could vastly improve their chances of reaching UEFA Europa League if they beat Bayer Leverkusen. Since the previous meetings haven’t brought a lot of goals and excitement, we will probably witness another dull match with one or two goals.
SC Freiburg 1, Bayer Leverkusen 0
