Two Borussias will face each other as Borussia Dortmund (15-8-6) travel to the Borussia-Park, the home of Borussia Mönchengladbach (11-6-12). Despite Dortmund were successful against The Foals in the recent matches, they have a mountain to climb after suffering Champions League exit in Monaco. At Signal Iduna Park in December, the hosts outclassed Mönchengladbach; Gladbach’s Raffael scored six minutes into the game, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lukasz Piszczek quickly overturned the result into their favor. In the second half, the Gabonese striker added another to the scoreline in addition to Ousmane Dembele’s goal in the 64th minute.
The hosts are on their way to save the season as they are sitting only two points from the top six and UEFA Europa League spot. Gladbach are 9th in the standings with 39 points, but Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg share the same goal towards the end of a season. Borussia Dortmund are just behind TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the 4th position with 53 points with only a point separating them from the direct Champions League qualification spot.
The guests had an extremely difficult period in the last two weeks. Since the attack on the team bus in Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel’s men are unable to get back on the track. They were beaten both times by AC Monaco and with DFB Pokal semi-final against FC Bayern Munich upcoming, it will be tough for the German expert to inspire his squad ahead of Saturday’s clash. Borussia Dortmund are on a very disappointing run in away matches – they managed to win only one out of the last six games on the road. BVB keeps a solid record in the last three matches against Gladbach; during the last three meetings, Dortmund were winning both at half-time and full-time, while managing to score at least three goals in each game.
Dieter Hecking’s side allowed five goals in the Hoffenheim visit last Saturday. The Foals were down 2-0 after 25 minutes but they rapidly equalized, setting the half-time score to 2-2. However, Julian Nagelsmann’s men were superior in the second half, dominating the possession and scoring another three through Demirbay and Uth. The hosts are unpredictable in the recent home matches; in the last five games at Borussia-Park, they registered three wins and two losses. Their home record this season reads W7 D3 L4 with 21 goals scored and only 12 allowed. Brazilian forward Raffael is still out for the hosts, meaning Lars Stindl and Hahn should start up front.
1. In the previous three matches under Jürgen Klopp, Borussia Dortmund were beaten by Gladbach.
2. However, under Thomas Tuchel, BVB comfortably won all three meetings.
3. When it comes to Bundesliga, Dieter Hecking and Thomas Tuchel are the two most experienced managers.
Gladbach chance lies in the BVB’s fatigue and a possible rotation ahead of the upcoming DFB Pokal clash. Since both teams are usually featured in the high-scoring affairs, we can expect at least a goal from both sides on Saturday.
