Hertha BSC Berlin (13-4-12) welcome VfL Wolfsburg (9-6-14) on Saturday within Bundesliga Matchday 30. The two sides already met at Volkswagen Arena in December in the nail-biting clash where the team from the Capital snatched the whole prize in the last minute. Back then in Wolfsburg, the score after 20 minutes was 2-1 in favor of hosts; Mayoral and Seguin scored a goal each for The Wolves, while Hertha’s Plattenhardt kept his team’s hopes alive before the second half. In the next 45 minutes, the crowd at Volkswagen Arena witnessed a complete turnover – Esswein scored the equalizer, while Wolfsburg’s goal scorer Seguin was given a second yellow card. In the closing minute of the match, the referee shown to the penalty spot;

Salomon Kalou left the keeper helpless after the precise shot, the whistle was blown and the final result was 2-3 in favor of Hertha BSC.

Both Hertha and Wolfsburg are in the form decline. The hosts managed to win only one out of last five Bundesliga outings while they were beaten in the remaining four. Dardai’s team is in the 5th position with 43 points, a spot that leads into UEFA Europa League, but in order to reach their destination, Hertha need to keep their form up in the remaining five matches. On the other side of the table, VfL Wolfsburg are sitting in the 13th place with only 33 points earned – certainly, one of the most disappointing seasons in the recent years for the Wolves.

VfL Wolfsburg

Despite beating FC Ingolstadt 05 in the previous round, Wolfsburg could easily find themselves in the relegation play-off spot since only a single point separates them from a tie with 2. Bundesliga team. The guests are in a very unconvincing form; in the last five Bundesliga meetings, they won two matches, drew one while they were also beaten twice. In 14 away matches this season, Wolfsburg registered the same number of wins and draws (4) along with 6 defeats, scoring 16 while allowing 24 goals in the process. Their defensive line allowed seven goals in the last two visits only.

Hertha BSC Berlin

Hertha were beaten by a relegation candidate in the previous round. At Opel Arena in Mainz, the hosts beat them with a minimal result of 1-0; unfortunately for Hertha, FSV Mainz haven’t been able to put the ball in the net themselves, however, John Brooks deflected a shot into his own net which turned out the be the match-winning goal for the opposition. Hertha BSC are one of the best home teams in Bundesliga this season – their record reads W11 D1 L2 with only 9 goals allowed. In Hertha’s previous three games in Bundesliga, there have been only two or fewer goals were netted.

The Pick

Both teams are under huge pressure especially by their fan base, but Hertha’s immaculate performances at Olympiastadion this season point to another victory in Berlin. Wolfsburg usually score in Berlin, so it is highly likely we see a narrow win for the home team.
