2018-2019 Scores&Stats MLB Betting Power Rankings: Week 10
by Brad Mullins Scores & Statson
The trick with baseball is finding value on the best teams and following those teams all-season long. This power ranking will be based on “against the spread” performance from week to week. In baseball, “the spread” is the “run line.” The money line is the straight up record. When a team wins a regular season game, they have just beaten the money line, but possibly, did not beat the run line.
This ranking is not a popularity contest or which team has the best lineup or the best rotation. This ranking is about beating the spread, (money line/run line). We will base this ranking from week to week on who has the better record against the spread and the team’s performance from a betting perspective. In baseball, this usually means that the best teams, with the best records, are the decisively better teams to bet on, however, there are exceptions.
World Series Odds: +7500 Record: 30-27 SU and 35-22-0 Run Line Previous Rank: 17th
The Rangers are playing much better baseball than anyone expected and are squarely in the wild card race; it’s just now June… Bet the run line and be careful on the money line with Joey Gallo out for 2 weeks.
World Series Odds: +1600 Record: 30-28 SU and 32-26-0 Run Line Previous Rank: 14th
The Cardinals swept the Cubs and that could happen if they were the worst team in baseball. Sweeps are what the Cubs and Cardinals do to each other. Don’t get excited, this team is not that great but good enough to stay above .500 on the run line.
World Series Odds: +6000 Record: 29-30 SU and 28-31-0 Run Line Previous Rank: 11th How different a team can look after the Astros leave town! The A’s had a great week prior but don’t count on this team for any kind of real consistency.
World Series Odds: +12500 Record: 25-37 SU and 29-33-0 Rune Line Previous Rank: 23rd
The Mariners have not collapsed to this degree in a long time. The front office needs run, the ownership need run, and this team need to be sold! Yes, we said it. Sell this team to someone that want to win, the long-suffering fans deserve better.
World Series Odds: +150000 Record: 18-41 SU and 26-36-0 Run Line Previous Rank: 30th
The Orioles are actually allowing less homers than the Mariners and Angels, but don’t be fooled, they give up the long ball like backyard whiffle ball. This team is batting practice. Stick to your guns and bet against this team on the money line and watch carefully the run line, handicap thoroughly or stay away.
