The trick with baseball is finding value on the best teams and following those teams all season long. This power ranking will be based on “against the spread” performance from week to week. In baseball, “the spread” is the “run line.” The money line is the straight up record. When a team wins a regular season game, they have just beaten the money line, but possibly, did not beat the run line.

This ranking is not a popularity contest or which team has the best lineup or the best rotation. This ranking is about beating the spread, (money line/run line). We will base this ranking from week to week on who has a better record against the spread and the team’s performance from a betting perspective. In baseball, this usually means that the best teams, with the best records, are the decisively better teams to bet on, however, there are exceptions.

1. Houston Astros

World Series Odds: +300
Record: 45-22 SU and 35-32-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 3

The Astros and Dodgers are neck and neck for the top spot, so the run line wins out. Yordan Alvarez may be the X factor

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

World Series Odds: +300
Record: 45-21 SU and 33-33-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 1

The Dodgers are still cranking it out and although the run line is certainly not a boon, the money line is a big winner. Look for the Dodgers to finish June strong with a favorable schedule.

3. Minnesota Twins

World Series Odds: +850
Record: 43-21 SU and 37-27-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 2

The Twins are still a great team to bet on but the competition in the top three is fierce. Eddie Rosario is hot and tearing it up and the pitching is consistent.

4. Tampa Bay Rays

World Series Odds: +1200
Record: 40-24 SU and 38-26-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 5

Tampa is still a player or two away and they may have missed it on Kimbrel. They are still a great team to bet the money line, they are hitting and playing defense, they are doing what matters.

5. New York Yankees

World Series Odds: +600
Record: 40-24 SU and 35-29-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 4

The Yankees could be slightly overrated at this point and we know that’s sacrilegious to the media giants! Who cares? It is what it is. The team is talented, but they are struggling with continuity.

6. Milwaukee Brewers

World Series Odds: +1400
Record: 38-28 SU and 36-30-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 6

The Brewers had better step up their game quick, they are much too inconsistent to consider them a frontrunner for the division, it’s simply too early. The Cubs are breathing down their necks.

7. Chicago Cubs

World Series Odds: +1400
Record: 37-27 SU and 33-31-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 10

The Cubs keep blowing saves, but they play in the NL Central! They will get this right and when they do, that could be all she wrote.

8. Philadelphia Phillies

World Series Odds: +1200
Record: 37-28 SU and 34-31-0 Rune Line
Previous Rank: 7

Is Jay Bruce the X factor? Maybe, he sure seems to be much more at home in Philly than in the wild, wild, west. Look for this team to get better.

9. Atlanta Braves

World Series Odds: +1400
Record: 36-29 SU and 32-33-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 8

Dallas Keuchel is a big acquisition and exactly what they need. Look for 10 solid outings and a boost in the win column.

10. Arizona Diamondbacks

World Series Odds: +4000
Record: 34-32 SU and 40-26-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 11

The D Backs are a bizarre team, they lose a lot, but they always manage to keep it close. Bet the run line without hesitation.

11. Texas Rangers

World Series Odds: +6600
Record: 34-30 SU and 38-26-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 12

The Rangers are still a surprise and still a great run line wager. This team has potential but will be next year before they move on up.

12. Boston Red Sox

World Series Odds: +1600
Record: 34-32 SU and 28-38-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 15

The Red Sox are now the worst team against the run line and this team aged in a hurry, they look old and beat up but are good enough to hang here in the middle.

13. Colorado Rockies

World Series Odds: +4000
Record: 33-31 SU and 34-30-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 9

The Rockies are not what they were a week ago but continue to get quality starts, keep it up and they will contend.

14. Oakland Athletics

World Series Odds: +6500
Record: 33-33 SU and 32-34-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 17

The A’s swept the Mariners and now we know the real Mariners. This A’s team has talent but just not enough to depend on.

15. Cleveland Indians

World Series Odds: +4000
Record: 33-32 SU and 31-34-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 18

The Indians have one great thing; Carlos Santana. He is a definite bright spot but that’s all folks.

16. San Diego Padres

World Series Odds: +5000
Record: 33-33 SU and 29-37-0 Run line
Previous Rank: 14

The Padres are back down to planet earth and they will get worse before getting better. Absolutely bet against them on the run line and watch the matchups closely from game to game.

17. New York Mets

World Series Odds: +4000
Record: 32-33 SU and 32-33-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 21

Pete Alonzo is the story and he is the only story. This Mets team is in disarray and they need a lot of help. Stay away.

18. Los Angeles Angels

World Series Odds: +12500
Record: 31-35 SU and 35-31-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 16

Much like the Rockies, the Angels keep games close but not enough to maintain a .500 record, that a betting disaster.

19. St. Louis Cardinals

World Series Odds: +2500
Record: 31-32 SU and 33-30-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 13

The Cardinals are simply not hitting, and they are struggling to produce runs. They must pick it up or life will be difficult.

20. Chicago White Sox

World Series Odds: +25000
Record: 31-33 SU and 28-36-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 19
The White Sox have a bullpen and they have Gilito who just might wing the dang Cy Young! This team has betting potential and certainly when the man takes the mound.

21. Pittsburgh Pirates

World Series Odds: +6600
Record: 30-34 SU and 30-34-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 20

The Pirates a struggling team but maintaining near.500. Betting against them is risky but betting for them is even riskier. Steer clear against top 10 teams.

22. Washington Nationals

World Series Odds: +4000
Record: 30-35 SU and 32-33-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 23

The Nationals are rebuilding and it’s going to take a village, it’s going to be a while before they are back and who knows, maybe years.

23. Cincinnati Reds

World Series Odds: +15000
Record: 29-35 SU and 33-31-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 22

The Reds are not a team worth looking at for betting purposes if anything bet against them, they can’t find quality starts and they lack consistency at the plate.

24. Seattle Mariners

World Series Odds: +50000
Record: 28-41 SU and 33-36-0 Rune Line
Previous Rank: 24

The Mariners won a couple and Juan Encarnacion picked up his 400th dinger. None of this is enough for us to get back on the train. Bet against this team.

25. San Francisco Giants

World Series Odds: +50000
Record: 26-38 SU and 28-36-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 25

The Giants are worse than ever, and Madison Bumgarner is done. The guy had a window, it was awesome, but it’s over. This team needs a house cleaning. They are a solid bet against.

26. Detroit Tigers

World Series Odds: +150000
Record: 24-38 SU and 27-35-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 26

The Tigers are blessed with the like of JaCoby Jones and that is the end of the line in good ole Detroit. Expect very little from a team that has no pitching.

27. Miami Marlins

World Series Odds: +250000
Record: 23-40 SU and 30-33-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 27

The Marlins have a very tough schedule on tap and without Caleb Smith, tough times are coming. Be ready to make some money betting against this teams success at least for the next couple of weeks.

28. Toronto Blue Jays

World Series Odds: +50000
Record: 23-42 SU and 28-37-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 28

This team is not the worst on paper, but they are the worst in baseball on the field. The Blue Jays are a cash betting cow so keep betting against them in the weeks to come.

29. Kansas City Royals

World Series Odds: +100000
Record: 20-45 SU and 31-34-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 29

The Royals have had their woes and need to make some quality trades. Mondesi is a bright spot and this team has some depth, but the pitching is a disaster.

30. Baltimore Orioles

World Series Odds: +250000
Record: 20-45 SU and 28-38-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 30

The Orioles have no middle relief no bullie, and no consistent hitting. They are the worst team on paper and very close to the Blu Jays in offense. They play well early but tap out mid-late innings. The “second half against” is most definitely the bet.
