The trick with baseball is finding value on the best teams and following those teams all season long. This power ranking will be based on “against the spread” performance from week to week. In baseball, “the spread” is the “run line.” The money line is the straight up record. When a team wins a regular season game, they have just beaten the money line, but possibly, did not beat the run line.

This ranking is not a popularity contest or which team has the best lineup or the best rotation. This ranking is about beating the spread, (money line/run line). We will base this ranking from week to week on who has a better record against the spread and the team’s performance from a betting perspective. In baseball, this usually means that the best teams, with the best records, are the decisively better teams to bet on, however, there are exceptions.

World Series Odds: +15000
Record: 21-23 SU and 25-19-0 Run Line

Record: 16-31 SU and 23-24-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 28

The Royals are a fantastic bet against the money line but hovering at .500 run line. Be careful with this team, handicap well and you can win.

29. Baltimore Orioles

World Series Odds: +100000
Record: 15-31 SU and 18-28-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 29

The Orioles are as embarrassing as it gets in MLB. This team is awful. They lack any kind of depth at every position, they have no pitching, and they have no bullpen. They will continue to get whacked on a nightly basis.

30. Miami Marlins

World Series Odds: +100000
Record: 13-31 SU and 18-26-0 Run Line
Previous Rank: 30

This team is just awful. Thirteen wins going into the last week of May is pathetic. We don’t blame Jeter, but he may want to reconsider this position. No, really, the Marlins are a bad organization and they could care less about winning. Amazingly enough, they have a talented young crop of pitchers along with what could be a fantastic bullpen. The problem is hitting and scoring and doing all the things it takes to win baseball games. This team is a disaster and Jeter needs to run or he will loathe the day he opted for this beating on an illustrious career. Bet against this team with reckless abandon!
