I know it is football season and we are all excited about it every single week. I love it. But there is a huge MLB playoff game going on tonight with some fascinating numbers. I was compelled to write and share these with you because of how informative these stats are.
The game I’m referring to is the Yankees vs. Indians. It’s game 5 of the ALDS in Cleveland. As you know, the ALDS series are best of five. We are in for a treat tonight as CC Sabathia will toe the rubber for New York and Corey Kluber will be on the mound for Cleveland.
One thing I love about do or die baseball games is the concept of the bullpen getting emptied out. Simply put, this is your season. You don’t have the luxury of “resting” or “saving” guys for the next game, because you don’t even know if you will be playing another game! Postseason baseball is great.
The betting lines for this game are interesting. It comes as no surprise that the home Indians are favored.
They are listed at -190 while the visiting Yankees are +170. The over/under run total is 7.5. I will certainly be locked into this game at 8:00 when the first pitch is thrown. And side note – One thing I love about baseball is that these games ALWAYS start on time. It’s incredible. If the game is at 7:05, the first pitch will be thrown at 7:05 on the button. If the game is 8:00, like tonight, we will be seeing the first pitch at precisely 8:00. It’s nice to see.
As I have mentioned to you guys before, anytime there is a huge national branded team on a weeknight, the game gets bet like crazy. Obviously the Yankees are one of the biggest fan bases in the world. I expect this line to move a little more towards their favor before this game starts.
Anyway, let’s take a look at the trends, which clearly favor Cleveland in my opinion.
The Indians are 8-2 in their last 10 games following an off day. They play very well when rested. They are also 6-0 in their last 6 divisional home playoff games. Oh, and not to mention, they are a ridiculous 44-10 in their last 54 games overall. Simply a wild stat!
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 0-5 in their last 5 road playoff games. They are also 1-4 in their last 5 road games vs. a right-handed starter. One positive stat for the Yankees, they are 8-2 in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning record.
