Five-star guard Devin Askew committed to Kentucky and coach John Calipari, the first member of the 2021 recruiting class for the Wildcats.
A 6-foot-3 Californian, Askew is listed as the No. 2 combo guard on the 247Sports composite and the top point guard on the ESPN 60.
Askew is from Sacramento but plays at Southern California powerhouse Mater Dei. He chose Kentucky over a number of programs, including Louisville, Arizona, Memphis and Villanova, and he made his announcement Thursday night in a video posted to Instagram.
247Sports reported that Askew could reclassify to the Class of 2020.
On the summer Nike EYBL circuit, Askew averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 assists per game, shooting 41.4 percent from three-point range, according to 247Sports.
