Shooting guard Wesley Matthews has signed with the Indiana Pacers as a free agent, the team announced Sunday.

After being traded to New York on Jan. 31 in a deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas, Matthews and the Knicks agreed to a contract buyout that made him a free agent Thursday. According to multiple reports, Matthews quickly agreed to join the Pacers, who still are reeling from the scoring and leadership loss of Victor Oladipo. Oladipo went down with a season-ending quadriceps injury last month.

"We're excited to welcome Wesley to the Pacers," said Pacers president Kevin Pritchard in the team's statement. "He's a solid professional who we feel strongly will help us the remainder of the season and into the playoffs. When we looked at possible players to bring in, he fit in well with what we are trying to accomplish here on the court, in the locker room and off the court."

Matthews averaged 13.1 points per game in 44 starts for Dallas this season. He played in two games with New York, scoring a total of 14 points.

--The sprained right knee that forced Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving from Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers is not considered serious and his status is day-to-day, ESPN reported one day later.

Irving was playing defense when the injury occurred with about five minutes remaining in the first half. He had an MRI and it was determined that the injury was not considered serious. The Celtics next take the court Tuesday at Philadelphia.

Irving, 26, is averaging 23.6 points, 6.9 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 47 games (all starts) this season.

--The Charlotte Hornets have claimed journeyman point guard Shelvin Mack off waivers from the Atlanta Hawks, the team announced.

Mack, who was waived by Atlanta on Friday, has appeared in 452 career games (56 starts) over eight NBA seasons with the Hawks, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers.

The Hawks waived Mack one day after acquiring him from the Grizzlies for guard Tyler Dorsey. The 28-year-old appeared in 53 games with three starts for Memphis this season, averaging 7.9 points and 3.4 assists in 22.7 minutes per game.
