The NBA is returning to The O2. The NBA London Game 2018 will feature the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics playing a regular-season game on Thursday 11 January 2018.
The game will mark the league’s eighth regular-season game in London and the Celtics' second game in the capital, having played a preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007. The 76ers will be playing their second game in the UK and the first game in London, having previously played a preseason game in Manchester against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ current roster features 2016-17 NBA All-Rookie First Team members Joel Embiid (Cameroon), who led all rookies in points and rebounds and Dario Šarić (Croatia), who was twice named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month during the 2016-17 season, as well as 2016 and 2017 No. 1 overall draft picks, Ben Simmons (Australia) and Markelle Fultz (U.S.), respectively. The Celtics’ roster currently features 2017 NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving (U.S.) and four-time NBA All-Star Al Horford (Dominican Republic), who last season led the team in rebounds.
Spurs vs. Lakers Preview and Predictions
"The Los Angeles Lakers knew the Ball family drama would follow them when they drafted Lonzo Ball No. 2 overall last summer, and they've become adept at brushing away some of the things Lonzo's father"...
In addition to the on-court action, the NBA London Game 2018 will feature a variety of interactive fan activities, NBA Cares community outreach initiatives and Jr. NBA basketball programming that will bring the NBA experience to fans in London. Not only will this game feature all of the pomp and circumstance of a normal NBA game, it also features a very good game on its face.
The Celtics have established themselves as the team to bet in the Eastern Conference and quite possibly the team to beat in the entire NBA. The offseason moves the Celtics made such as the Kyrie Irving trade, is further proof that the organization is committed to winning.
Cavaliers vs. Raptors Preview and Predictions
"The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off one of their worst performances just in time to face one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers will try to solve their defensive woes in time to stop"...
The Irving trade paid off in huge dividends as this season finds itself near the halfway point, the Celtics have established a reason for the Eastern Conference to fear them.
How this one plays out tonight will be interesting. London is a long road trip and who knows how this will affect both teams. The good news for both the Celtics and the 76ers is the fact that they are both from the East Coast. No one team has a time zone advantage over another.
Celtics vs. 76ers Preview and Predictions
"The Philadelphia 76ers are streaking in the right direction again and won their last four games while scoring an average of 114 points, but they are about to run into a defensive wall"...
The Celtics come into tonight’s game with a 33-10 record and the 76ers are even up on the season at 19-19. The 76ers are young and full of some amazing talent. What they are doing with this young talent is good but can most definitely be better. This squad is having some growing pains and they need to pick up the pace slightly or they could find themselves in a place they don’t want to be again this year. Last year was abysmal so anything is better, however, this is certainly not the end game for the organization.
This game promises to be a good one. Even though the 76ers are young and probably not on the same level maturity wise as the Celtics, they have a lot of talent and they will be up for the challenge. It will be a great game and should be closer than Vegas thinks. Enjoy the NBA from London.
