Rockets vs. Timberwolves | A Barnburner in the Making
by Brad Mullins Scores & Statson
The Houston Rockets come into Minnesota looking for their 43rd win on the season and they are going to have their hands full. The Timberwolves are playing solid basketball and defeating them on their home floor is not going to be easy. The Rockets are scoring 114.1 ppg and allowing 105.6 ppg.
The Timberwolves are close on the numbers with 109.6 ppg and 106.4 ppg allowed. Count on a high scoring affair tonight and count on running out of the gym for both teams. Both squads shoot the ball well with Minnesota holding the edge at 48.0 percent shooting and the Rockets with 43.6 percent. The numbers across the board are close for both teams. On paper, this game has to give a slight edge to the Timberwolves as their home record is stellar with only 6 loses on the season.
The recent numbers are in the Rockets favor and NBA teams tend to play based on streaks, especially this year. The Rockets went through their own losing streak and they have overwhelming moved past that. Imagine had the Rockets not lost seven in a row. They would easily have the best record in the NBA. Those pesky Warriors seem to be the one exception to this rule. Sure, they lose from time to time, but they never go on a streak such as the Rockets, Cavaliers, or the Celtics. The Rockets are in the middle of an 8 game winning streak and are 9-1 in their last 10 games.
The Timberwolves are 4-6 in their last 10 and they are trying to build on their last win over Sacramento, 111-106. The previous two games were heartbreakers for the Wolves as they lost to Chicago by 1, and Cleveland by 2 in overtime. The two games prior were quality wins over New Orleans and a beat down over Milwaukee, 108-89.
Who needs this win?
The Timberwolves need this win worse than the Rockets, they have the OKC Thunder breathing down their necks, Portland a game back of OKC, Denver a ½ game back and Utah a couple of games back. Utah is winning games, they have shown up in the second half of the first half of basketball. These guys are on a mission and playing like it every single night. They are going to be a threat and they will make a solid playoff run.
Minnesota has a big task on their hands tonight and they need to make this statement, they need to make it for themselves, not the fans, not Vegas, nobody but themselves. If they can beat Houston, then they are for real. The Rockets are the second best team in the NBA with the probable MVP on the team (Harden).
The Rockets are on a roll and they will be tough to beat at home or on the road. They have proven that they are capable of going on the road and beating very good teams. Tonight’s game will be the best game of the day in the NBA and count on a high-scoring barnburner. Enjoy this one and win some money.
