The first full week of NBA games in the month of December feature a number of great matchups that carry right into the weekend. All 30 teams have now played at least a quarter of their 82-game regular season schedule to give bettors a good feel for which ones are the money makers and which ones have been a major drain on the bankroll.
Looking back at some of the league betting trends through Tuesday night’s action, things have evened out almost across the board based on the results against the spread. Underdogs still have a slight 51 percent winning edge ATS that jumps slightly to 51.3 percent when it comes to underdogs covering on the road. When it comes to betting the total line, there is a more significant edge as far as betting on the UNDER with a 53.5 percent winning rate. If you are looking to bet on a few individual hot NBA teams this, here is a pair of teams from each conference that you might want to ride into their next few games.
The team at the top of the list in the Western Conference would have to be the Utah Jazz, who are in fourth place in the Northwest Division. They have gone a very pedestrian 13-12 straight-up in their first 25 games, but they have been able to dial things up a bit at 7-3 SU in their last 10 games. The Jazz just dropped a 100-94 decision against Oklahoma City on Tuesday, but they still covered as eight-point road underdogs. The Jazz have now covered in their last seven games to boost their overall record ATS to 15-10.
Next up for Utah is Thursday’s home game against the red-hot Houston Rockets, who have now won seven straight and nine of their last 10. While it would be hard to deny that Houston is tearing up the hardwood right now, it is an even 2-2 ATS in its last four games. The Rockets have closed as double-digit favorites in six of their last seven games, failing to cover in three of those contests.
If you decide to take a pass on this matchup, Utah goes on the road this Saturday to face a Milwaukee team that is 9-12-1 ATS including a 3-7 mark ATS at home this season. The Bucks have failed to cover in six of their last nine games heading into home games against Detroit on Wednesday and Dallas on Friday before playing host to the Jazz.
A hot betting team in the Eastern Conference right now would be the Indiana Pacers with an 8-2 record ATS in their last 10 games while winning seven of those contests SU. After dropping back-to-back road games to Houston and Toronto, the Pacers bounced back with Monday’s 115-97 victory against New York as 11-point favorites at home.
Indiana is now 13-11 SU in the Central Division standings heading into Wednesday’s home game against Chicago as a 9.5-point favorite on most betting boards. The Pacers have gone a profitable 15-9 ATS this season including a 7-4 record ATS on their home court. Heading into Wednesday’s division tilt, they have covered in four of their last five home games. Chicago is bringing up the rear in the Central with a dismal SU record of 3-19 overall and it has failed to cover ATS in 10 of its last 13 games.
Following Wednesday night’s game, Indiana will play host to Cleveland this Friday night and Denver on Sunday. The Cavaliers have been playing to form lately with a 12-game SU winning streak heading into Wednesday’s home game against Sacramento as 12.5-point favorites, but their record ATS during this run is a sketchy 6-6.
Denver is 13-10 SU on the year with a 9-14 record ATS. The Nuggets have failed to cover in nine of their first 11 road games heading into road games against New Orleans on Wednesday and Orlando on Friday before making the trip to Indiana for Sunday’s 5 p.m. tip.
