Washington Wizards backup center Ian Mahinmi will miss significant time due to a strained Achilles tendon, the team announced Thursday.

The Wizards said Mahinmi "will be treated conservatively" and re-evaluated in six weeks.

Mahinmi, who turns 33 in November, averaged 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 14.6 minutes across 34 games (six starts) with the Wizards last season.

The 6-foot-11 Mahinmi enters the final year of a four-year, $64 million deal signed with Washington in 2016.

He joins C.J. Miles (foot), Isaiah Thomas (hand), Troy Brown (calf) and John Wall (Achilles) as Wizards who will miss significant time to start the season.

The Wizards open the regular season Oct. 23 at Dallas.
