Stony Brook and first team All-America East guard Elijah Olaniyi announced Sunday that he's transferring to Miami to play for the Hurricanes.

The 6-foot-5 graduate transfer will have to sit out this season without a waiver and has one year of eligibility remaining.

Olaniyi averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Seawolves last season.

He chose Miami despite not being able to visit, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Culture, tradition, coach (Jim) Larranaga, he's a really respected coach and I feel like under him and under his guidance I can reach my ultimate goal of being an NBA player," Olaniyi told 247Sports on Sunday. "The entire staff recruited me, including coach Larranaga; he was one of the first coaches to reach out."

Olaniyi chose Miami over Arkansas, Nevada, Minnesota and Xavier, among others.
