Connecticut freshman guard James Bouknight has been suspended for the first three games of the season, coach Dan Hurley said Thursday.
The discipline is in relation to allegations that Bouknight fled from a car crash in late September.
Hurley termed the punishment as appropriate.
Bouknight will miss the season opener against Sacred Heart on Friday as well as games against Saint Joseph's (Wednesday) and Florida (Nov. 17). He will be eligible to return against Buffalo on Nov. 21.
According to published reports, the arrest warrant affidavit says Bouknight smelled of alcohol after the crash of the morning of Sept. 27. The car crashed into a street sign near campus.
Bouknight has been charged with evading responsibility, interfering with a police officer, traveling too fast for conditions and operating a motor vehicle without a license, according to reports.
