When it comes to betting on projected win totals for the best three teams in the ACC this season, Clemson tops that list as well at 11. The betting odds at MyBookie favor the OVER at -145 with the betting odds Clemson wins fewer than 11 games set at +115.
Betting the OVER in this prop offers quite a bit of value. Dabo Swinney has built the Tigers into a national power over the past several seasons as head coach. Given the high level of success in this program, no matter how much talent is lost from one season to the next, you know that Clemson is going to win the majority of its games as a dominant force in college football. That dominance was on full display in the 2018 championship game when Clemson blew the doors off Alabama 44-16 behind quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Looking at the Tigers’ 2019 regular season schedule, the worst case scenario would be a PUSH on 11 wins. Going back to the 2012 season, Clemson has won at least 11 games in six of its last seven campaigns. The lack of another really strong competitor in the ACC only adds value to betting on the Tigers to match that feat again in 2019. They just ran the table at 15-0 in last year’s title run.
Clemson is listed as a prohibitive -300 favorite to win the ACC again this season and second on that list is Miami at +800 betting odds. The Hurricanes’ projected wins are set at 8.5 with the betting odds favoring the OVER at -150. The odds that Miami goes UNDER that total are set at +120.
This program is still trying to recreate the glory days of the late 1980s and early 1990’s when the Hurricanes routinely competed for national titles with double-digit victories. They made a run of four-straight seasons with at least 11 wins while still in the Big East from 2000 through 2003. However, since joining the ACC in 2004, Miami has only won nine games or more in six of its last 15 seasons.
After going 10-3 in 2017 with Mark Richt in his second season as head coach, the program slipped to 7-6 last season. Manny Diaz takes over the head coaching duties this season and it could be a tall task to reach nine wins in his first year at the helm. Tate Martell is being hyped as the real deal at quarterback, but it is hard to find those nine wins on the Hurricanes’ 2019 schedule.
Florida State Hurricanes
Florida State’s odds to win the ACC title this season are set at +1400 playing in the same division as Clemson. The betting odds for a projected win total of 7.5 are set at -115 for both the OVER and the UNDER.
The Seminoles slid to 5-7 last season in Willie Taggart’s first season as head coach for the departed Jimbo Fisher. From 2010 through the 2016 season, Florida State did manage to win at least nine games in that seven-year run. However, it is still going to take some time to get back to that level of consistency in this program. This season should be considered a rebuilding year where a 7-5 record would be an accomplishment.
