It's Week 3 of the NFL preseason and it's arguably the most important game week of this time of year.
Just a few years ago, this was a dress rehearsal for the regular season, but that's not as prevalent anymore, with teams as concerned about the injury as playing well. Still, many of the regulars will play anywhere from a half or into the third quarter, seeking to get timing down when the action really kicks in a couple of weeks.
The is why for NFL previews and predictions we have more of a realistic semblance of an actual contest and inevitably, the quality of play is crisper and the effort is higher than previous conflicts.
Does this make having more success against the online sportsbooks any more likely? Not necessarily, but having something tangible to work with does matter for NFL picks is a plus. However, one noticeable trend that has caught wise guy action, picking the better backup quarterback has been HUGE thus far in 2019.
N.Y. Giants at Cincinnati (-1.5, 42) Best Line: MyBookie
This is New York's first road game in August and Cincinnati's initial hone encounter. The Giants' offense is clicking early at 31.5 PPG and the Bengals are 10-2 OVER in home games off an upset win as a road underdog. Giants 27-21 Take Over (Best Bet).
Carolina at New England (-3.5, 42) - Best Line: Intertops
Patriots are off two impressive road wins. (Nothing new about that now or in the regular season). They take care of business yet again. Patriots win/cover 24-17.
Baltimore (-4.5, 36) at Philadelphia Best Line: America'sBookie
With Baltimore on a 9-1 ATS NFLX run, it's a given the Ravens with John Harbaugh as there head coach wants to win every time. Baltimore at this many points is high, but how much does Philly expose Carson Wentz to the Ravens defense? Ravens win/cover 23-17.
Since Oakland signed a late one-year deal to stay in Oak-Town, the A's already had a home game this weekend, so the NFL found the Raiders a "home" game in Winnipeg. Green Bay is 7-1 ATS in away contest off a 10+ point loss. Packers win/cover 26-20.
Cleveland (-3, 43) at Tampa Bay Best Line: MyBookie
Both squads appear improved, though Cleveland has higher aspirations. Browns run defense takes away terrible Tampa Bay rushing game and makes them one dimensional. Browns win/cover 24-20.
Buffalo (-1, 42.5) at Detroit Best Line: JazzSports
Buffalo's 2-0 and looked sharp both times. Detroit is 0-2 and played listlessly. Lions show up and are 8-1 ATS after two SU and ATS setbacks. Lions 23-20 (Upset Special).
Houston at Dallas (Pick, 40.5) Best Line: Intertops
Dallas has first home game and its defense had played as well as expected and contained Houston, leading to a lower scoring affair. Cowboys 21-13, Take Under.
New Orleans (-3, 42.5) at N.Y. Jets Best Line: MyBookie
Situational Play: When the line is +3 to -3 and the home team won by 10 or more points, faces opponent after scoring three points or less in the first half last game, teams like the Jets are 6-22 ATS. Saints win/cover 27-20.
