The Pac-12 was a bit of an afterthought in last season’s race to the College Football Playoff with the other four major conferences occupying the top spots in the rankings. The NCAAF futures odds to win this year’s national title paint the same picture with the Oregon Ducks the first Pac-12 team on the board at +2500 odds as the eighth-best team on the list.
The betting odds to win the conference title this season is a dead heat between Oregon and the Washington Huskies as +220 favorites. The Utah Utes should have a say in the matter as +350 third-favorites before the betting odds drop to +850 for Washington State and +900 for USC as the top five teams on the list.
The 2019 Pac-12 title all comes down to wins and losses, especially in some key head-to-head matchups between the top teams on this list.
The Huskies head into the new season with a projected win total of 10 games. The betting odds at MyBookie favor the UNDER at -165 odds. The moneyline odds that Washington wins more than 10 games are set at +135.
Chris Peterson won a total of 15 games in his first two seasons as Washington’s head coach. Since then, his teams have won at least 10 games in each of the last three seasons including postseason play. Getting to 10 wins in 12 regular season games this year will be a stretch, but the Huskies appear to be the team to beat in the Pac-12.
Washington has a very manageable nonconference schedule that should add up to three wins, if it does not get tripped up on the road against BYU. The biggest bonus is home games against Oregon, Utah, USC and Washington State. Given the possibility of a PUSH at 10 wins, I would go with the added value in betting the OVER.
The projected win total for Oregon is nine games. The betting odds favor the UNDER at -145 with betting odds of +115 that the Ducks reach double-digit wins in the 12-game regular season.
Coming off a 5-4 record in Pac-12 play last season to fall to fourth in the North Division as part of an overall record of 9-4, the Ducks have something to prove in 2019. This has been one of the premier programs in the Pac-12 for quite some time, but Oregon has now failed to reach 10 wins in each of its last four seasons. Head coach Mario Cristobal is starting to feel the heat heading into his third season at the helm.
Much like Washington, the win total at nine games makes it tempting to grab the added value in the odds for the OVER with a chance of a PUSH. However, opening the season against Auburn is a tough way to start the 2019 campaign. Nevada will also present a challenge in Week 2 as part of a tough nonconference schedule. Throw in the Huskies, USC and Stanford on the road and I am leaning toward eight wins as the ceiling for this team.
The Utes are the class of the Pac-12 South Division with a projected win total of nine games. The betting odds for the OVER on this total are bullish at -130. There are even-money +100 odds for betting the UNDER.
Coming off a 9-5 record in 2018 that included a 6-3 mark in conference play could set the table for bigger and better things this season. Utah opens the 2019 season on the road against BYU which will be a good early test. Even with Washington on the road in early November, I like the Utes’ chances to win at least nine games to make -130 odds on the OVER worth the added risk.
