College Football Picks: No. 1 Ohio State Big Favorites-Penn State Only Needing 7
by Brad Mullins Scores & Statson
The Buckeyes are the new number one team in the land and Vegas is killing them for it with a -43.5 number. While that may seem like a lot of points (and it is) Maryland is really bad this season. Are they this bad? What about Penn State laying just -7 against Minnesota, seems easy right? This is why they call it a gamble and absolutely why we do our research; to help guide you along the path.
We scooped up last week with the cover on Michigan, VA Tech, Memphis, USC over and Wake Forest. What do we have this week and what games are worthy of a second look?
Now that the official rankings have been released, teams will be pressing, and coaches will keep their foot on the gas. It’s “go time”, it’s “crunch time” and everybody must make a statement. The national champion contenders must make statements from week to week or they loose strength in the polls and that means they drop. The polls mean everything and in order to stay or move up, teams had better cover the spread. Who’s up for the cover this week?
Maryland vs. No. 1 Ohio State (OSU – 43.5 O/U: 63.5) Best Line: Intertops
Michigan beat the pants off of Maryland last week and we have no doubt that Ohio State will do the same. Look for an explosive first half and close to nothing from the Terrapins. OSU -43.5.
No. 4 Penn State vs. No. 17 Minnesota (PSU -7., O/U: 47.5) Best Line: Bovada
Under the total looks like the best way to earn a living on this game. Penn State makes weekly statements with their defense and against Minnesota, they will make another. Under 47.5.
Look for this one to go to the wire between two teams that want to beat each other. Alabama is difficult to beat at home, but LSU is a different team this year. They finally have their act together. We see a shootout. Over 65.
No. 5 Clemson vs. NC State (CLE -31.5, O/U: 53.5) Best Line: MyBookie
Clemson could be covering at the half in this one. Count on a huge blowout and an easy cover. Clemson 63, NC State 10.
No. 15 Notre Dame vs. Duke (ND -8, O/U: 51.5) Best Line: Intertops
Notre Dame may not be in the championship picture at this point but that doesn’t matter in this one. Duke has failed to get much better after big improvements over the past several seasons. Not today – ND wins big and covers the 8.
Iowa State vs. No. 9 Oklahoma (OKLA -14.5, O/U: 68) Best Line: Bovada
Iowa State has a way of hanging around with Oklahoma and they will do it again and it won’t be a defensive effort. This one will be a big shootout and will see them over. Iowa State +14.5 and over 68.
No. 22 Boise State vs. Wyoming (BSU -12.5, O/U: 48) Best Line: America’s Bookie
The Broncos just may score 48 on their own. The Cowboys certainly look much better than they have in recent years, but we don’t trust their defense against the home team. BSU -12.5 and over 48.
No. 18 Iowa vs. No. 13 Wisconsin (WIS -9.5, O/U: 38.5) Best Line: MyBookie
Ten points are too many to ask Wisconsin to lay against a very solid BIG TEN rival. The Badgers looked unbeatable at one time this season but that seems like ancient history. Look for Iowa to hang around all day and look for them to possibly pull the upset. We love +9.5.
Having lived in several different states I am never quite
sure where I should say that I am from! I was born in WA. State. I did not grow
up there. My family moved to Idaho when I was a young boy, where we lived for
11 years. As a result of my fathers occupation; I have had the privilage to
experience many states and different cultures around the country.
I have lived in WA, OR, CA, ID, CO, KS, NY, MO, TX, FL, IN,
NV, AZ, and Hawaii. I have also lived in Puerto Rico, Mexico, El Salvador,
Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. I have managed to visit or live in, 49 of our great
states and travel extensively throughout Central America. My travels have taken
me to such places as Sinaloa, Chiapas, Myan ruins in Guatemala, and many, many
others. I believe that I have had the honor to visit every Mexican state.
I am an English teacher by trade and love helping others
improve thir lives through education. I have taught for institutions such as
The University of Washington (Go Huskies) Berlitz, and a few other
international language academies. I have obtained many degrees in the school of
hard knocks, by way of old fashioned experience! Such as driving taxi,
working at McDonalds, working for giant retailers as well as giant casinos! A
jack of all trades for sure.
I love sports! My passion is sports. I love talking about
it, arguing about it, following and keeping up with the current state of
affairs. Having lived in many places helps me connect with many different fan
bases. As a writer, this is a real advantage to have. I can connect with a
Yankees fan, or a Chargers fan. I love it and I hope to continue to give
readers a different perspective than the average, run of the mill story will
As you read my stories; I hope you enjoy them. I hope they
make you think, maybe make you happy and even make you mad! As you read further
you may discover that over the years; I have been influenced by people such as
Jim Rome, or Colin Cowherd. These are the kinds of folks that make me think and
make me see sports differently.
