Jose Borregales helped Florida International upset Miami this season when he kicked two long field goals. Now, he's a Hurricane.
Borregales, who entered the transfer portal last month as a graduate student, announced Sunday on social media that he will make the short trip to a new campus and play for Miami in 2020. He converted field goals of 50 and 53 yards when FIU topped the Hurricanes 30-24 on Nov. 23.
Borregales, a Miami native who has one season of eligibility remaining, made 21 of 29 field goal attempts (72.4 percent) last season but was better from longer distances. He made 8 of 10 kicks from 40-plus yards, including 3 of 4 from at least 50.
His 53-yarder against Miami tied the school record he set in 2018 against Middle Tennessee. He has made 50 of 65 career field goal tries.
Miami has a commitment from his brother, Andres Borregales, who is the No. 2-rated kicker in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports composite.
The Hurricanes struggled in the kicking game last season, with three players combining to make 12 of 20 field goal attempts.
