Mike Locksley has hired fellow Alabama assistant coach Josh Gattis as his offensive coordinator at Maryland, multiple outlets reported Thursday.
Gattis, 34, spent one season at Alabama after six years coaching under James Franklin at Vanderbilt and Penn State. Gattis joined Alabama coach Nick Saban's staff as co-offensive coordinator, alongside Locksley, while also coaching wide receivers.
Gattis is a highly regarded recruiter and is credited with bringing in two top-100 recruits to Alabama's 2019 class. He was named Big Ten recruiter of the year by Scout.com in 2015.
Gattis was also reportedly a candidate for the Appalachian State and Temple head coaching vacancies.
Gattis played safety at Wake Forest and was a fifth-round draft pick by Jacksonville in 2007, subsequently playing in four games with the Chicago Bears that season.
Gattis is the second Alabama assistant that Locksley is bringing to Maryland, joining Butch Jones (tight ends coach).
