A COVID-19 outbreak among the Vanderbilt football program has forced a postponement of the Commodores game at Missouri on Saturday.

According to the Southeastern Conference, the game is tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 12 in Columbia, Mo. It is the first SEC game postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vanderbilt (0-3, 0-3 SEC) had just 56 scholarship players available for its game on Saturday against South Carolina. Although the Commodores stayed within two scores in the first half, they were crushed 41-7 by the Gamecocks.

The recommended threshold to play a game, according to SEC guidelines, is 53 scholarship players.

Missouri (1-2, 1-2 SEC) is coming off an inspired 45-41 victory over LSU and was supposed to be heading into its homecoming game this weekend. Hurricane Delta moved last weekend's game from LSU to Missouri.

Missouri was missing seven players against LSU due to positive COVID-19 tests as well as contact tracing. Starting wide receivers Damon Hazelton and Keke Chism did not play in the victory.
