2018-2019 Scores&Stats NFL Betting Power Rankings: Week 12
by Doug Upstone Scores & Statson
The Top 3 did not change in our Power Ratings, but we had a great deal of movement in the rest of the Top 10. In addition, from spots 11 to 22, there was also quite a bit of shuffling. With all the byes completed, we could see a lot of bit of movement the rest of the season.
Favorites: 11-3 SU and 9-5 ATS (Season: 112-55-2 SU and 76-85-8 ATS) Favorite of 7 or more: 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS (Season: 38-8 SU and 25-20-1 ATS) Favorites of 3 or less: 2-3 SU and 2-3 ATS (Season: 33-30-2 SU and 25-34-6 ATS) Home Underdogs: 2-2 SU and 2-2 ATS (Season: 20-22-2 SU and 26-17-1 ATS) Pick Games: Home team 4-3 ATS
This all leads to our score-based Power Ratings, which we introduced this season. These type of ratings are based not only on records but on how teams did against the point spread, which gives us a broader view when it comes to understanding the strengths of a team when making lines.
Here are this week's ranking and team updates. Your comments are always welcome.
Odds:+300 Record: 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS Last Week's Rank: 1st
The Saints continue to be the best team in the NFL and football bettors cannot get enough of New Orleans, who is on a 9-0 ATS roll. A fascinating test Thursday at Dallas to see if they can keep the juggernaut intact.
Odds:+2000 Record: 6-4-1 SU and 5-4-2 ATS Last Week's Rank: 5th
Kirk Cousins and Minnesota's offensive coordinator both made adjustments and it worked in a victory over Green Bay. The Vikings need to keep winning and hope the last game of the season against Chicago is for the NFC North crown. Doing that will not be simple with a trip to Foxborough this week.
Odds:+1400 Record: 8-3 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 6th
The Bears made all the right plays and backup Chase Daniel played a smart game at Detroit in the victory. Next is a trip to Jersey to take on the Giants and no word early on Mitchell Trubisky for this upcoming game.
Odds:+600 Record: 8-3 and 7-4 ATS Last Week's Rank: 7th
New England was shockingly flat for the first half of Jets coming off a drubbing by Tennessee two weeks prior. The Patriots turned it up in the second half to pull away. They will need to bring more effort with Minnesota in town.
Odds:+1400 Record: 8-3 SU and 6-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 8th
After falling behind 10-0 to Arizona, the Chargers scored the next 45 points to blow the Cardinals out 45-10. Losing Melvin Gordon for important Pittsburgh contest does not help the Bolts but Philip Rivers just keeps rolling along.
Odds:+1200 Record: 7-3-1 SU and 6-4-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 4th
Pittsburgh put up 527 yards of offense on Denver, but only scored 17 points thanks to losing the turnover battle 4-0. The Steelers will have a real battle on their hands with the L.A. Chargers this week who are 5-1 SU on the road.
Odds:+1800 Record: 8-3 SU and 5-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 11th
In spite of winning seven in a row, Houston was not always very impressive until they took Tennessee out behind the woodshed. The Texans have to bring the focus on a short week against Cleveland who is starting to believe.
Odds:+4000 Record: 6-5 and 7-3-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 10th
After coming up just short a few times, Seattle got the job done at Carolina. With five weeks remaining, the Seahawks will be home four times starting this week against San Francisco and they control their playoff destiny.
Odds:+5000 Record: 6-5 SU and 5-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 12th
Lamar Jackson is receiving excellent preparation to become a full-time starter for Baltimore and he made a nice jump from first to second game. Let's see how he and his team responds on the road in Atlanta.
Odds:+3300 Record: 6-5 SU and 5-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 19th
With the running game back in gear, the Dallas offense is rounding into form, with the defense still their anchor. The Cowboys will find just where they are in the NFC when the Saints come marching to Big D.
Odds:+3300 Record: 6-5 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 14th
Indianapolis went back to mistake-prone ways for better than three quarters against Miami, trailing by 10. However, this is a different Colts group and they scored 13 unanswered points to win. They catch a befuddled Jaguars team at the right time but will be Jags be out for quick turnaround revenge?
Odds:+4000 Record: 5-6 and 4-7 ATS Last Week's Rank: 17th
Just when it was about time to start throwing dirt and bury the Super Bowl champs for 2018, they overcame a 19-3 deficit and found a way to strike down the Giants. A win at home this Monday over Washington changes the Eagles future.
Odds:+10000 Record: 5-6 SU and 5-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 23rd
As you probably heard, Denver was the first team in NFL history to face three teams in succession on five or more game-winning streaks. The Broncos beat the last two in the Chargers and Steelers and they take a massive step down in class and travel to Cincinnati.
Odds:+20000 Record: 5-6 SU and 4-7 ATS Last Week's Rank: 20th
One should expect Cincinnati to keep falling in the power ratings with the news Andy Dalton went on the IR Monday. That leaves Jeff Driskel and Tom Savage as Bengals' quarterbacks and that is savagely awful.
Odds:+75000 Record: 4-7 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 25th
Another week and another QB change for Tampa Bay. This week the results were positive as Jameis Winston responded with a strong showing. Can Winston duplicate his performance at home against a suddenly laboring Carolina defense?
Odds:+50000 Record: 3-8 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 22nd
After another ugly defeat, this time at Buffalo, Jacksonville their fired their offensive coordinator and benched Blake Bortles. Not sure how Bortles stays in north Florida going forward. Next, the Jags will face a quarterback they wish they had in Andrew Luck.
Odds:+12500 Record: 6-5 SU and 7-4 ATS Last Week's Rank: 21st
Colt McCoy was no answer for Washington in Dallas and he was ruthlessly destroyed on Twitter. One would think the Redskins have to win Monday in Philadelphia to have any hope of winning the NFC East in spite of injury situation.
Odds:+50000 Record: 3-8 SU and 6-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 25th
With a 19-3 lead against a depleted Philadelphia defense, New York became less aggressive and lost the momentum and eventually the game to the Eagles. Only a win this week over Chicago will release the sting of that loss.
Odds:+30000 Record: 5-6 SU and 6-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 28th
Miami had 24-14 lead at Indianapolis with 8 1/2 minutes left in the game and could not put the Colts away. Simply put, that often is the difference between winning and losing. With the Dolphins 23-48 ATS as December favorites, that is hardly comforting with Buffalo next at home.
Odds:+75000 Record: 4-7 SU and 5-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 29th
Despite mishandling the quarterback situation in the worst possible way in August thru October, don't look now but the Bills are improving and winners of two straight. If they can make it thru a third consecutive contest without a turnover, Buffalo could win in Miami.
Odds:+250000 Record: 2-9 SU and 3-8 ATS Last Week's Rank: 27th
Thought to have a chance to win at Tampa Bay, San Francisco was never in the game against the Buccaneers and they became just the second team all season not to force a Tampa Bay turnover. The situation is hardly rosy with a trip to Seattle.
Odds:+100000 Record: 3-8 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 30th
The Jets played New England to a 10-10 halftime draw, but could not hold up in the last two quarters. For like the 25th time, Jets coach Todd Bowles is back on the hot seat in the Big Apple. Facing Tennessee is probably not going to cool that seat.
Odds:+250000 Record: 2-9 SU and 5-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 31st
After taking a 10-0 lead at Carson, it looked like Arizona was ready to make amends for sickly Raider's setback. Instead, the Redbirds allowed Philip Rivers to set two passing records and gave up 45 consecutive points. A trip to Green Bay ought to warm the Cards right up.
Odds:+500000 Record: 2-9 SU and 2-8-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 32nd
One would have to say Oakland preparation is solid as they again scored a touchdown on their first drive of the game. Unfortunately, the NFL requires teams to play 60 minutes. The Raiders are thrashed at home this week by Kansas City.
