2018-2019 Scores&Stats NFL Betting Power Rankings: Week 13
by Doug Upstone Scores & Statson
Despite losing, New Orleans remains at the top of our NFL Power Ratings. As far as the rest of our Top 20, because of so many upsets this past week, we had a great deal of shifting both up and down. Check them all out and see what might lie ahead.
Favorites: 9-7 SU and 7-9 ATS (Season: 121-62-2 SU and 83-94-8 ATS) Favorite of 7 or more: 4-2 SU and 2-4 ATS (Season: 42-10 SU and 27-24-1 ATS) Favorites of 3 or less: 0-2 SU and 0-2 ATS (Season: 33-32-2 SU and 25-36-6 ATS) Home Underdogs: 4-3 SU and 5-2 ATS (Season: 24-25-2 SU and 31-19-1 ATS) Pick Games: Home team 4-3 ATS
This all leads to our score-based Power Ratings. These type of ratings are based not only on records but on how teams did against the point spread, which gives us a broader view when it comes to understanding the strengths of a team when making lines.
Here are this week's ranking and team updates. Your comments are always welcome.
Odds:+300 Record: 11-1 SU and 5-5-2 ATS Last Week's Rank: 3rd
The Rams were sluggish off their bye and but did enough to win and cover at Detroit. Los Angeles better not be off kilter for their contest at Chicago or they could surrender home-field advantage back to New Orleans.
Odds:+550 Record: 10-2 SU and 8-3-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 2nd
After their win at Oakland, Kansas City is only 1-3-1 ATS the last several weeks. Giving up 33 points continues like a bad sign for the Chiefs and one has to wonder if this could be another playoff one-and-done for Andy Reid.
Odds:+1100 Record: 9-3 SU and 7-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 7th
A truly remarkable comeback by the Chargers at Pittsburgh. It goes to show why coaches preach about just keep playing. The Bolts have a large number to cover against Cincinnati, who looks all but done.
Odds:+1600 Record: 9-3 SU and 6-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 9th
With a pair of double-digit victories, Houston has jumped into the Top 6 of our Power Ratings and rattled off nine wins in a row. Once again not much respect from the sportsbooks on the opening line against Indianapolis.
Odds:+1400 Record: 7-4-1 SU and 6-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 8th
One week after gaining over 500 yards and losing at Denver thanks to four turnovers, Pittsburgh loses at home for the first time after holding at least a 16-point lead. The Steelers head to Oakland with Baltimore right on their heels.
Odds:+3300 Record: 7-5 and 8-3-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 8th
Since starting 0-2, Seattle has won seven of 10 and easily could have won one time during their three most recent losses. The Seahawks could really strengthen their wild-card hold with a win at home over Minnesota.
Odds:+4000 Record: 7-5 SU and 6-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 11th
After losing three straight, Baltimore has rebounded and won three consecutive times. All three wins were against scuffling offense which is not the case at Kansas City. Nevertheless, if the Ravens and run the ball and score, they give their defense a chance.
Odds:+2000 Record: 8-4 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 5th
Coach Matt Nagy rolled the dice and kept Mitchell Trubisky on the sidelines against the Giants and lost. Maybe they would have lost anyway, but you would think they would have preferred their best chance to win. Important ballgame with the Rams at home this week.
Odds:+8000 Record: 6-6 SU and 5-7 ATS Last Week's Rank: 12th
The wheels are coming off the Panthers season with four straight setbacks. The defense is atrocious and coach Ron Rivera fired two defensive coaches. With Carolina 1-5 SU and ATS on the road this season, a trip to Cleveland does not a win is guaranteed.
Odds:+2500 Record: 7-5 SU and 6-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 14th
Football is rather amazing. Left for dead as another Jerry Jones failure, the Cowboys are playing very well and winning. The defense holds the Cowboys key and the offense is making just enough plays to matter. Dallas can bury the Eagles hopes of repeating as division champs.
Odds:+20000 Record: 4-7-1 SU and 4-8 ATS Last Week's Rank: 13th
For the eighth time in a dozen games, Green Bay started with no passion and that resulted in their worst loss of the season to Arizona. Let's see what kind of energy the Packers have at home for Atlanta with a new head coach.
16. Tennessee Titans
Odds:+8000 Record: 6-6 SU and 7-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 18th
For all the negatives about Marcus Mariota, he's actually played above average by NFL QB standards since coming back from injury and led Tennessee to a couple come from behind wins. Let's see if the Titans can get back above .500 with a triumph over Jacksonville Thursday.
Odds:+6600 Record: 6-6 SU and 6-5-1 ATS Last Week's Rank: 20th
After stepping down in class to handle Cincinnati, Denver has another winnable road contest at Frisco. The Broncos are on a 6-1 ATS sprint and with upcoming tilts against Cleveland and at Oakland, Denver has a legit shot to be 9-6 heading into the final contest against the Chargers with a win this week.
Odds:+5000 Record: 6-6 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 15th
For those that saw a red-hot Indianapolis offense being shutout at Jacksonville raise your hand. The only reasonable explanation is the Colts youth finally showed up. It won't be any easier at H-Town this week.
Odds:+40000 Record: 4-8 SU and 6-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 17th
Mathew Stafford has regressed this season and seeing he's the face of the franchise and the one making the most cash, that is not a positive development. Detroit is hardly a lock to pick up a "W" at Arizona because they are 11-27 ATS as away favorites.
Odds:+40000 Record: 4-8 SU and 3-9 ATS Last Week's Rank: 19th
Atlanta had 131 yards of total offense against Baltimore at home. That is what Matt Ryan usually has in a half. The Dirty Birds are just dirty on a 0-4 SU and ATS downward spiral. A trip to the frozen tundra could make the Falcons chilly offense even colder.
Odds:+30000 Record: 5-7 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 22nd
In all the excitement of FitzMagic, musical quarterback chairs and Dirk Koetter thought a goner on Black Monday after the regular season ends, Tampa Bay has won back to back games and allowed 17 or fewer points in three of their last four outings. Severe test with New Orleans in west Florida.
Odds:+50000 Record: 4-8 SU and ATS Last Week's Rank: 23rd
When failing to score a touchdown and posting six points is considered a positive, we must be talking about Jacksonville. The Jaguars ended their brutal seven-game losing streak and pitched a shutout. Just a day to enjoy with a trip to Tennessee on Thursday night.
Odds:+20000 Record: 4-8 SU and 7-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 26th
We are still bewildered about Pat Shurmur as the Giants head coach, but his Giants team is making winning plays and showing improvement as the season continues. How good will Saquon Barkley be when he has even an average NFL offensive line?
Odds: +25000 Record: 4-7-1 SU and 7-5 ATS Last Week's Rank: 24th
Baker Mayfield had almost 400 yards passing at Houston but his three interceptions helped seal his team's fate. This is a good test for Cleveland and Mayfield to show recuperative powers and see if they can handle slumping Carolina.
Odds:+100000 Record: 4-8 SU and 5-7 ATS Last Week's Rank: 28th
Tight end Charles Clay might want to have vision checked after misjudging Josh Allen wobbly toss of 40 yards, which would have given Buffalo a truly deserved to win over Miami. Clay was open by 20-yards and just had to catch the ball. The Bills go after sweeping of Jets this week.
Odds:+300000 Record: 3-9 SU and 6-6 ATS Last Week's Rank: 31st
In football, there are two signs you are a not a good football team. In college, you play three road homecoming games a year. In the NFL, after engineering an upset win, the other team fires their head coach. Arizona deserved to beat Green Bay and will be trying to make two in a row with the Lions in the desert.
Odds:+100000 Record: 3-9 SU and 4-8 ATS Last Week's Rank: 30th
It was right there for the Jets! Leading Tennessee 16-0, the Flyboys just had to come in for a safe landing. Instead, like all bad teams, Gang Green was outscored 26-6 and lost for a sixth consecutive time. Next up is a revenge battle with Buffalo.
