Forget about being the highest paid WR. Forget about being the highest paid player in the NFL. New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr wants to be the highest paid player in NFL history.

Well here’s the thing. He says he wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL, and that’s what is grabbing all the headlines. But let’s be clear about this – If he becomes the highest paid player in the NFL, that would mean he is the highest paid ever!

NFL contracts are happening at a record pace. Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is, in all likelihood, about to become the highest paid player in NFL history. Pretty crazy to think about.

Quarterbacks get paid a ton of money, there’s no doubt about that. And they deserve it considering the market, and the fact that they’re the most important position in all of sports.

However, Odell Beckham Jr wants more than that. He essentially believes he is more important than a QB.

"It's like the elephant in the room, and you don't want to talk about it," Beckham said in a video posted by UNINTERRUPTED on Thursday. "I believe that I will be hopefully not just the highest-paid receiver in the league but the highest-paid, period."

Beckham is one of the most talented players I have ever seen. He’s tremendous and super athletic. I’ve never seen anyone quite like him. He truly has one of the most unique and gifted skill sets we’ve ever seen at the WR position. I have no doubt that he will have a great career and ultimately go down as one of the best WR’s to ever play the game of football. And from this perspective, it’s fair to say that he deserves to be the highest paid ever.

But let’s also be clear. The title of “highest paid ever” is only a temporary title. Contracts change so quickly nowadays. It’s simply a matter of when guys hit free agency, in regards to who’s the highest paid in the league. So even if Beckham get’s that title, it will only be for maybe a year.

For example, at the moment there are only like 5 players who are competing for the “highest paid ever” title. I’d list those guys as Odell Beckham, Antonio Brown, Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Donald, and Le’Veon Bell.

Again, highest paid ever, does not necessarily mean best ever. It’s all about free agency and agents negotiating monster deals based on what other players have already received.

Regardless, Beckham is going to get paid.

Although he will make just $1.8 million this season from the Giants, the 24-year-old will earn more than $10 million this year in endorsements. He is currently scheduled to make $8.459 million next year in the final year of his rookie contract.

Beckham is a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who has had at least 90 catches, 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.

He’s one of the best players in the game, and is certainly about to be one of the highest paid. And he deserves to be in my opinion.
