We are excited to introduce a new feature here at ScoresandStats.com. While NFL Power Ratings are hardly a new idea, our method will are different and not subjective like most other models.

Like everyone else, we have a starting point, but as the season moves along, ours are based on how teams do when evaluating performance not only by winning but against the point spread. This is a factor that most serious handicappers and oddsmakers use. While the method and number arrangement will differ upon preference, it takes the guess work out and leaves us with a fact-based, score-based number for each team.

Along with this, you will see variances from traditional Power Ratings and some you may disagree with. That is not a problem for us and we urge you to share your comments. Enough talking, let's get to the opening numbers.

1. Minnesota Vikings

Odds: +1000
Preseason Record: 3-1

We start with controversy right away in naming Minnesota as the best team. Though even we have concerns about Kirk Cousins, this is the most complete team in the NFL.

2. Philadelphia Eagles

Odds: +1000
Preseason Record: 1-3

Though it's a cliché, Philadelphia goes from the hunter to the hunted and will learn what that means when they start playing on the road.

3. New England Patriots

Odds: +600
Preseason Record: 3-1

Until proven otherwise, New England deserves being anointed the best team in the AFC. They start the year with more cracks than usual.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

Odds: +1000
Preseason Record: 3-1

After last year's ridiculous showing (performance would be giving them credit) in the playoff loss to Jacksonville, we find out what kind of resiliency this Steelers team has.

5. Los Angeles Rams

Odds: +1000
Preseason Record: 2-2

Fully loaded roster and tons of star power in Tinsel Town. For the Rams, last year was a learning experience and let's see how they move forward in the NFC which at the top is stacked.

6. Green Bay Packers

Odds: +1000
Preseason Record: 2-2

If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, and new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine can work his usual magic, the Pack is back as a Super Bowl contender.

7. New Orleans Saints

Odds: +1600
Preseason Record: 3-1

Interesting club that appears on the rise after retooling, yet with Drew Brees at quarterback, the time to win is now.

8. Atlanta Falcons

Odds: +1800
Preseason Record: 0-4

Our ratings were done before the preseason, being careful not to give that period too much weight, still, Atlanta was brutal in August and bear watching right away.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars

Odds: +1800
Preseason Record: 3-1

A young team on the rise and have been wisely built inside out. The question remains is Blake Bortles the right quarterback for Jacksonville?

10. Detroit Lions

Odds: +5000
Preseason Record: 3-1

Most will not have the Lions rated this high. However, we like Matt Patricia to improve defense and Matthew Stafford is top-shelf quarterback.

11. Los Angeles Chargers

Odds: +2000
Preseason Record: 2-2

Oddsmakers are predicting the Chargers win the AFC West and we agree. The defense is in place and if they can avoid typical injury-bug, this is a treacherous squad.

12. Baltimore Ravens

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 5-0

Joe Flacco finally has a full arsenal of receivers and his play this camp was one of a player not pleased his team took a quarterback in the draft as their top pick. (That's a good thing.)

13. Carolina Panthers

Odds: +3300
Preseason Record: 3-1

Given the issues with their offensive line, Carolina could well slip relatively quickly in these rankings. This should be followed closely.

14. Dallas Cowboys

Odds: +2500
Preseason Record: 0-4

With Jerry Jones, you never know about Dallas. Best suggestion, bet the Cowboys as road underdogs and against them as home favorites.

15. Kansas City Chiefs

Odds: +2800
Preseason Record: 2-2

The Chiefs will not roll over under Andy Reid just because they made a quarterback change, still, we still need to see what Patrick Mahomes actually can do.

16. San Francisco 49ers

Odds: +2200
Preseason Record: 1-3

Though the Niners are improved, not sold on this club as a potential playoff team, with holes on defense and now top runner Jerick McKinnon is out for the season.

17. Houston Texans

Odds: +2200
Preseason Record: 3-1

It's been a few seasons since this club has not been hit hard by injuries. In terms of front-line talent, this is borderline Top 10 group, let's see if they can prove it.

18. Seattle Seahawks

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 0-4

Definitely a team in decline and other than Russell Wilson, not much to rave about. It would see they could go up or down from right here.

19. Cincinnati Bengals

Odds: +8000
Preseason Record: 3-1

How Marvin Lewis kept his job as coach is a mystery. Cincinnati is basically not good enough or bad enough to move much off this spot.

20. New York Giants

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 2-2

This is a potential sleeper squad. Eli Manning will be better with a run game and Saquon Barkley can deliver that. The defense is one year removed from being elite and could rebound.

21. Tennessee Titans

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 0-4

Just not sold on Marcus Mariota being a top-flight signal caller. However, Tennessee is strong on both lines, they just need more playmakers.

22. Oakland Raiders

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 3-1

The vibe out of Oakland is Jon Gruden is coaching like when he left the first time, which was 2001. They don't even call him Chucky anymore.

23. Buffalo Bills

Odds: +12500
Preseason Record: 2-2

Nice job by Buffalo making the playoffs last year, but this club is weaker than it was a year at this time and will have poorer quarterback play.

24. Miami Dolphins

Odds: +12500
Preseason Record: 1-3

Coach Adam Gase has gone from coach on the rise to just another Miami head coach that is not Don Shula. Difficult to get excited about Ryan Tannehill.

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Odds: +8000
Preseason Record: 2-2

Most in Tampa Bay seemed unfettered Jameis Winston is out, and Ryan Fitzpatrick is their starting quarterback to start the season. That's not good.

26. Arizona Cardinals

Odds: +10000
Preseason Record: 3-1

What is your Over/Under on games Sam Bradford will start for Arizona before being injured? (Our guess -5)

27. Denver Broncos

Odds: +4000
Preseason Record: 2-2

Maybe, just maybe, this is too low. However, Case Keenum is back to playing on a non-Super Bowl contender and there are serious questions about Vance Joseph as coach.

28. Washington Redskins

Odds: +6600
Preseason Record: 1-3

The best thing that could happen to Redskins fans is if Daniel Synder sold the team. Unfortunately for them, that is not going to happen.

29. New York Jets

Odds: +15000
Preseason Record: 1-3

Sam Darnold looks like the real deal and Gang Green has to start adding the right pieces over the next three years to make the Jets a playoff contender.

30. Chicago Bears

Odds: +6000
Preseason Record: 2-3

A good aggressive move by Chicago to trade for Khalil Mack. With is still a suspect roster at many positions, the front office cannot make one mistake going forward.

31. Indianapolis Colts

Odds: +6600
Preseason Record: 3-1

The biggest reason Andrew Luck got hurt, to begin with, is the offensive line. This contingent still ranks in the lower 25 percent in the league. That's not good.

32. Cleveland Browns

Odds: +8000
Preseason Record: 3-1

Cleveland is 1-31 the last two years. Until they prove otherwise, they've earned this ranking.
