The commercials are finished, the wings are done and Philly fans are just about finished doing weird things like eating horse poop. Super Bowl LII is in the books and it was a game to be remembered. The perennial underdog Philadelphia Eagles defeated the big, bad Patriots 41-33 to shock the world.
And within hours of the conclusion of Super Bowl LII people were already looking to next year and odds were released on the 2018-2019 Super Bowl champion. Here's a quick rundown on some of the contenders for next seasons title.
New England Patriots (+350) - Despite this loss, the Patriots once again will open the season as the Super Bowl favorites. Brady and Belichick should be back so it's almost by default the Pats are listed at or near the top.
Philadelphia Eagles (+850) - Defending champs getting back a quarterback who was competing at an MVP level prior to an injury. Of course, they are going to be near the top. If Wentz is able to come back healthy the Eagles will be sitting right atop with the Pats looking to repeat.
Green Bay Packers (+800) - The only other team checking in below the +1000 level is the Packers. Green Bay missed the playoffs last season as all-world quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed 9 games due to injury. They have changed coordinators on both sides of the ball but as long as Rodgers returns they should compete.
Middle of The Pack
Carolina Panthers (+2500) - A good pick towards the middle may be the Carolina Panthers. A lot will be on the shoulders of Cam Newton but adding an offensive weapon via the draft to go along with last year's #1 pick Christian McCaffrey could give the Panthers a needed push in the NFC.
Seattle Seahawks (+2500) - The Seahawks missed the postseason this year but they still have Russel Wilson so this team will again have a chance. Questions will continue with the defense as they are another year older and coming off some serious injuries. Have we seen the last of the Legion of Boom?
Denver Broncos (+3500) - The talent is still there on the defensive side of the ball and there are weapons on offense but man do the Broncos need a quarterback. Look for these odds to significantly improve if they are able to land a competent quarterback in the offseason.
The Next Eagles
The Eagles were 50-1 to win the Super Bowl at the open of the season. Could another early season long shot sneak up the rankings and raise the Lombardi Trophy?
Baltimore Ravens (+5000) - Just missed the playoffs in large part to a rather pedestrian offense. The Ravens will need to get Flacco some weapons if they are going to have any chance to not rank near the bottom on offense.
Tennessee Titans (+5000) - Made the playoffs last year despite having a negative point differential. Will really need quarterback Marcus Mariotta to step up and have a solid year as he appeared to regress for the majority of this season.
Only the Strong Survive
And for those with an aversion to money, there is always…
Cleveland Browns (+10,000) - Maybe they should focus on winning a game next year before we start thinking Super Bowl. At least they have 2 of the top 4 picks in the next draft. Things may eventually look up for the Browns.
