The PGA Tour heads to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic and a full field. Limited fields with no cuts have dominated the schedule during the PGA’s Asian Swing. BetOnline's odds to win the Mayakoba Golf Classic have two heavy hitters at the top as well as several sleepers.

Golf Glance: Kuchar set to defend in Mexico

Matt Kuchar comes in as the leader at +1600 with Jason Day and Viktor Hovland both at +1800. Here are the top-five +2000 and under according to BetOnline Sportsbook Review.

Always Tight

Top-Rated Online Sportsbooks, such as BetOnline, take past winners into consideration. But the Mayakoba Golf Classic has never had a repeat winner. Matt Kuchar can change that. And, the event is always tight at the finish. The event has been won by two strokes or less or by playoff eleven of twelve events.

2018Matt Kuchar−221 stroke win over Danny Lee
2017Patton Kizzire−191 stroke win over Rickie Fowler
2016Pat Perez−212 stroke win over Gary Woodland
2015Graeme McDowell−18Playoff win over Jason Bohn, Russell Knox
2014Charley Hoffman−171 stroke win over Shawn Stefani

Predicting the Mayakoba Golf Classic

Matt Kuchar is the returning Mayakoba Champion and he’s at the top of the favorites list. Last season Kuchar defeated Danny Lee by one stroke for his eighth TOUR win. He won twice last season, finished in the top-ten eight times and looked strong at the PGA Championship. Kuchar’s only concern will be some inconsistencies that plagued a few of his outings last year.

Tony Finau started the 2020 season off with a T9 at the Shriners before dropping back to T53 and T59 during his last two outings. Finau comes in at +2000 probably due to the field and his style of play which fits El Camaleon Golf Club. He will need his driver to perform all four rounds.
Abraham Ancer carded a top-5 finish at the WGC-HSBC Champions a few weeks ago which hopefully will kick start his game that has been somewhat inconsistent of late. The good news is that his stats overall have improved especially when it comes to nailing par fives. If Ancer brings his whole bag then he’s in the hunt on Sunday.

Top-Rated Online Sportsbooks are pointing towards Kuchar, Day, and others to win the Mayakoba Golf Classic but there are plenty of spoilers in the field. Don’t be surprised if players further down the odds list make a run including several bunched together at +4000 to +5000. Keegan Bradley, Cameron Champ, Harold Varner III, and Rory Sabbatini are all players that have games well suited for El Camaleon Golf Club and could be a factor if they make it past moving day.
