The Boca Raton Championship, a Champions Tour stop for 13 years, will become the second of three tournaments in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs beginning in 2020.
The tournament will feature 54 players competing for the 36 spots in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. The 2020 Boca Raton Championship will be held Oct. 26-Nov. 1 at The Old Course at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
It replaces the Invesco QQQ Championship in Thousand Oaks, Calif., which has been the second event of the playoffs since 2017.
To correspond with the new playoff status, the purse in Boca Raton will increase from $1.7 million to $2 million.
"The Boca Raton community has supported PGA Tour Champions for over a decade, and the city's enthusiasm and support make it a great place to host a Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs event," president of the Champions Tour Miller Brady said in a release. "Fans will continue to get unprecedented access to the game's legends while watching them compete for one of the year's most prestigious titles."
The Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs start with the top 72 players money leaders from the regular season, with the field narrowing the following two weeks. The playoffs will begin with the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Va., followed by the stop in Boca Raton and concluding with the championship in Phoenix.
