Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Mike Weir headline the group of players expected to make their PGA Tour Champions debuts in 2020.

The tour announced its 27-event schedule Wednesday, featuring tournaments in 18 states and four foreign countries with a total prize pool of nearly $59 million.

"We are excited to announce the 2020 PGA Tour Champions schedule as we continue to focus on building a tremendous tournament product for our players, partners and fans," tour president Miller Brady said in a release. "Our Tour benefits greatly from the numerous legends who compete each week, as well as the 'rookies' who make their debuts, and 2020 will be an incredible year for both."

Els, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, celebrated his 50th birthday last month. Furyk, a 17-time PGA Tour winner, turns 50 on May 12, the same day as Weir, the 2003 Masters champion.

The 2020 season will begin with Els' debut at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai in Hawaii the week of Jan. 13-18.

"I am looking forward to my first start," Els said. "... It will be great to reconnect with all of my friends I grew up competing with, and I know the camaraderie and competition will provide a lot of excitement for our fans."

Hall of Famer and five-time major winner Phil Mickelson will be 50 on June 16 but hasn't committed to playing in any Champions events.
