The PGA Tour is winding down as the FedEx Cup Playoffs kicking off.  This is the 12th year for the playoffs and as expected the No. 1 golfer in the world, according to the Official World Golf Ranking, is favored to take round one at the Northern Trust at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey. Dustin Johnson heads into opening round play on Thursday as a heavy favorite.

Johnson, the defending Champion of the Northern Trust, has had a successful 2018 to date. The South Carolina golfer has three wins in 2018 and has ridden the top of the rankings for much of the season. Johnson’s three wins this season started with the Sentry Tournament of Champions followed by the St. Jude Classic only a few weeks later. He went on to win the RBC Canadian Open last month.

Johnson’s only low point in the season came when he failed to make the cut at the British Open prior to winning the Canadian Open. He was not alone as Justin Thomas, Sergio Garcia, Brad Snedeker, Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm were among the notable names to not move onto weekend play for the Open.

Golf Glance

Speaking of Justin Thomas, he’s right behind Johnson on the favorites list. Johnson is at +900 with Thomas resting at +1200 with Tommy Fleetwood rounding out the top-ten favorites with +2800.

Ridgewood Country Club by the Numbers

Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey, which located northwest of New York City in Bergen County. The club was originally founded in 1890 in the township of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey. The 1890 course was homemade in by a group of friends and then replaced by a professionally built course in 1910 at nearby Ridgewood hence the name. But, the current course was built in Paramus in 1929.

The course was redesigned in 1996 and has undergone several renovations and modifications to the layout to make it more suited for PGA Tour play. That includes the addition of bunkers, new greens, fairways and even a new irrigation system.

Brandt Snedeker Earns 9th PGA Win with Wyndham Championship

The course offers 27 holes for the PGA to choose from. Here are the holes that will come into play for the 2018 Northern Trust.

“This year, the routing will offer the first seven holes from the East Course, mix in five from the Center (Nos. 2-6), and conclude with six from the West (Nos. 4-9). What will be incorporated are some of the flavors that Tillinghast embraced – a cozy par 3 (the 155-yard 15th or No. 6 West); a par 5 that pays tribute to Pine Valley’s vast expansive of sand, “Hell’s Half Acre” (the 626-yard 13th, or No. 4 West); and a short par 4 that can be driven (the 291-yard 12th).” – Source: PGA.com/Jim McCabe
