The Capitals (22-4-5 / 49 Points) have the best record in the NHL and they’ve been the most profitable team despite being big favorites in the majority of their games this season.

Winnipeg had a losing week and fall to #2 in our NHL betting power rankings.

Home teams (244-141-40-26 / 54.10%) have been starting to play better lately.

1. Washington Capitals

Stanley Cup Odds: +900
Record: 22-4-5 (+$861) / 16-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 3

WAS rank #3 in goals scored (3.61 GPG) and #10 in goals against (2.77 GA/G). The Capitals also have one of the best powerplay units (24.5 PP% - 5th) in the league. Carlson has 13 PP points.

2. Winnipeg Jets

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 17-10-2 (+$849) / 16-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 1

The Jets went 1-2 (3-0 ATS) with two one-goal losses as dogs. Scoring was a problem in the two losses and WPG now are averaging 2.83 GPG (20th), while they rank #25 on the powerplay (14.9 PP%).

3. New York Islanders

Stanley Cup Odds: +1200
Record: 19-6-2 (+$794) / 12-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 2

The Islanders went 3-1 this week and posted a profit, but lost a spot in our rankings. NYI are only allowing 2.41 GA/G (3rd), but they only score 2.89 GPG (19th) and rank #18 on the PP (18.5 PP%).

4. Colorado Avalanche

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 18-8-2 (+$794) / 17-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 5

The Avs finished the week with a 3-0 record. MacKinnon has been on fire. He leads the team with 44 points (18G/26A). As a team, the Avs are scoring a league-best 3.68 GPG.

5. Edmonton Oilers

Stanley Cup Odds: +1800
Record: 18-10-3 (+$524) / 15-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 4

Draisaitl (53 Points) and McDavid (52 Points) are tearing up the NHL this year. The Oilers score an average of 3 GPG (14th), but they finish the week with the best powerplay unit (32.3 PP%) in the NHL.

6. New York Rangers

Stanley Cup Odds: +4000
Record: 14-11-3 (+$519) / 17-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 6

The Rangers finished the week with a 2-2 record despite being dogs in every game. The defense is slowing improving, but they’re still allowing 3.21 GA/G (23rd) and 35.9 SA/G (31st).

7. St. Louis Blues

Stanley Cup Odds: +1000
Record: 18-6-6 (+$439) / 15-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 7

The Blues are only allowing 2.5 GA/G (5th). Binnington (.925%) and Allen (.926%) have both been great between the pipes. If they continue stifling teams, the Blues are going to be tough to defeat.

8. Boston Bruins

Stanley Cup Odds: +750
Record: 20-3-6 (+$338)
Previous Rank: 8

Boston are allowing a league-best 2.24 GA/G. Rask and Halak are the best goaltending duo in the NHL. Boston also rank #4 in goals scored (3.59 GPG) and #2 on the powerplay (29.4 PP%).

9. Philadelphia Flyers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 16-8-5 (+$245) / 13-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 10

PHI beat MON and TOR to begin the week, but closed it out with a shutout loss to ARI. It looked like goaltending was going to be a problem for Philly, but they rank #6 in goals against (2.66 GPG).

10. Arizona Coyotes

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 17-10-4 (+$206) / 18-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 9

The Coyotes have continued receiving great goaltending (2.26 GA/G) despite allowing 32.4 SA/G (23rd). The OFF (2.61 GPG - 25th) also needs to produce more if they want to be playoff contenders.

11. Carolina Hurricanes

Stanley Cup Odds: +1800
Record: 17-11-1 (+$28) / 12-17 ATS
Previous Rank: 13

The Hurricanes continue rising up our rankings lately. With the record they have I’m surprised they haven’t posted a bigger profit, but they have struggled as big favs on multiple occasions.

12. Dallas Stars

Stanley Cup Odds: +1600
Record: 16-11-3 (-$6) / 14-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 11

The Stars have a good record considering the OFF (2.6 GPG - 26th) has struggled all year. The DEF (2.43 GA/G - 4th) has continued to keep them in games, but they need to start scoring more.

13. Ottawa Senators

Stanley Cup Odds: +20000
Record: 12-16-1 (-$59) / 15-14 ATS
Previous Rank: 12

OTT snapped a 5-game losing streak with a win over EDM (5-2) on Wednesday. OTT are allowing 3.1 GPG (20th) and they rank even worse in goals scored (2.62 GPG - 24th) this season.

14. Vancouver Canucks

Stanley Cup Odds: +2800
Record: 14-11-4 (-$64) / 15-14 ATS
Previous Rank: 17

The Canucks went 2-1 this week and scored 5 goals in both wins. Vancouver are scoring 3.24 GPG (8th) and allowing 2.93 GA/G (14th). They also have one of the best powerplay units (26.8 PP% - 8th).

15. Pittsburgh Penguins

Stanley Cup Odds: +2500
Record: 16-9-4 (-$85) / 13-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 16

PIT went 2-1 this week and in both wins they shutout the opponent. The Penguins now rank #7 in goals against (2.69 GA/G) and #6 in goals scored (3.34 GPG). Injuries are still hurting them, though.

16. Minnesota Wild

Stanley Cup Odds: +5500
Record: 14-11-4 (-$132) / 14-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 27

The Wild have won five games in a row, including a win over TB (5-4) as a +180 dog on Thursday. MIN have shot up the rankings, but is this current streak sustainable? I expect some regression soon.

17. San Jose Sharks

Stanley Cup Odds: +2800
Record: 15-13-2 (-$198) / 11-19 ATS
Previous Rank: 14

The Sharks went 1-2 this week and lost some ground in our rankings. The OFF (2.8 GPG - 21st) is still struggling. Couture leads the team with 29 points, but many other players need to step up.

18. Buffalo Sabres

Stanley Cup Odds: +4000
Record: 13-11-5 (-$236) / 17-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 15

The Sabres have had a couple offensive explosions in their last several games, which have resulted in victories, however, it’s impossible to predict when the next explosion will happen.

19. Florida Panthers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2800
Record: 13-9-5 (-$258) / 12-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 19

Florida have 1 win in their last 5 games. The Panthers have been one of the more exciting teams to watch, as they’re scoring 3.44 GPG (5th), while allowing opposing teams to score 3.48 GA/G (29th).

20. Chicago Blackhawks

Stanley Cup Odds: +7000
Record: 12-12-5 (-$280) / 15-14 ATS
Previous Rank: 23

The Blackhawks are alternating winning/losing streaks. They’re on a 2-game win streak, but had lost the previous 3 games. The biggest problem has been the lack of scoring (2.72 GPG - 22nd).

21. Montreal Canadiens

Stanley Cup Odds: +4000
Record: 13-11-6 (-$396) / 12-18 ATS
Previous Rank: 20

The Canadiens are scoring goals (3.17 GPG - 9th), but they’re allowing 3.37 GA/G (28th). They also are terrible at killing penalties (75.6 PK% - 26th). If they improve on DEF, they could start posting profits.

22. Tampa Bay Lightning

Stanley Cup Odds: +1000
Record: 13-10-3 (-$454) / 9-17 ATS
Previous Rank: 21

TB went 1-2 this week and they’re now on a 1-4 run. Like most struggling teams in the NHL, TB has had problems on DEF (3.31 GA/G - 27th). They also rank #20 on the penalty-kill (78.4 PK%).

23. Anaheim Ducks

Stanley Cup Odds: +6600
Record: 12-13-4 (-$508) / 15-14 ATS
Previous Rank: 25

The Ducks needs some more goalscorers before they’ll be able to turn things around. Anaheim are scoring 2.66 GPG (23rd) and 28.8 SPG (28th). They also rank #30 on the powerplay (10.8 PP%).

24. Calgary Flames

Stanley Cup Odds: +2800
Record: 14-12-4 (-$530) / 11-19 ATS
Previous Rank: 29

The Flames have won three consecutive games and the OFF (2.47 GPG - 28th) has been starting to produce more. The DEF (2.97 GA/G - 15th) is also tightening up. I like CGY to start winning more.

25. Columbus Blue Jackets

Stanley Cup Odds: +6600
Record: 11-13-4 (-$538) / 12-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 18

Columbus went 0-3 this week and have fallen back down our rankings. The OFF (2.5 GPG - 27th) has struggled despite ranking #11 on the powerplay (19.8 PP%). They need to do better when 5-on-5.

26. Nashville Predators

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 12-10-5 (-$557) / 10-17 ATS
Previous Rank: 22

The Preds went 0-2 this week, allowing 6 goals while only scoring 2 goals. NSH are still one of the highest scoring teams (3.26 GPG - 7th), but they’re allowing way too many goals (3.19 GA/G - 22nd).

27. Vegas Golden Knights

Stanley Cup Odds: +1800
Record: 15-11-5 (-$575) / 12-19 ATS
Previous Rank: 28

Vegas had a 4-game win streak snapped with a loss to NYI (3-2) on Thursday. VGK dug themselves a big hole earlier in the season and it’s going to take a lengthy winning streak to get to even money.

28. Los Angeles Kings

Stanley Cup Odds: +20000
Record: 11-17-2 (-$616) / 12-18 ATS
Previous Rank: 24

The Kings went 1-3 this week and have lost three in a row. The Kings are allowing 3.27 GA/G (24th) and only scoring 2.47 GPG (28th). They’re going to be among the bottom feeders this season.

29. New Jersey Devils

Stanley Cup Odds: +10000
Record: 9-14-5 (-$889) / 9-19 ATS
Previous Rank: 26

The Devils had a terrible week (0-4) and have shown no signs of improvement. The Devils are scoring 2.46 GPG (30th) and allowing 3.54 GA/G (30th). There’s no way I’d bet on NJD anytime soon.

30. Toronto Maple Leafs

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 13-13-4 (-$935) / 10-20 ATS
Previous Rank: 30

The Leafs went 1-2 this week with losses to PHI (6-1) and COL (3-1). With as much firepower as the TML have, they need to get the OFF (3.13 GPG - 11th) rolling again. DEF (3.3 GA/G - 26th) is a problem too.

31. Detroit Red Wings

Stanley Cup Odds: +75000
Record: 7-20-3 (-$1170) / 12-18 ATS)
Previous Rank: 31

I hope you’ve been fading the Red Wings. DET have now lost 10 games in a row. They rank worst in the league in scoring (2.1 GPG) and goals against (3.93 GA/G). Nothing is going right in Detroit.
