The biggest news in the NHL this week had to be the firing of Mike Babcock in Toronto. It has been announced that Sheldon Keefe will take over head coaching duties for the Maple Leafs.

In other news, the Islanders continue winning and have already posted a huge profit.

Here are the latest betting trends in the NHL:
(Trends for Games Played Through November 22nd 2019)

•    Game Totals (Nov 16th-22nd): 25 Overs / 23 Unders (Season: 169 Overs / 166 Unders)

Home underdogs (43-29-6-4 SU / 52.44%) have been a great bet this season.

1. New York Islanders

Stanley Cup Odds: +1000
Record: 16-3-1 (+$1019) / 10-10 ATS
Previous Rank: 1

The Isles went a perfect 3-0 this week, including two wins against the Pens. The Islanders are only allowing 2.45 GA/G (4th). The OFF is also playing better and NYI now rank #10 in scoring (3.25 GPG).

2. Winnipeg Jets

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 13-9-1 (+$658) / 11-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 4

The Jets are only scoring 2.7 GPG (25th), while allowing 3 GA/G (14th). Winnipeg are starting to play a lot better as of late. In the Jets L4 games, they’ve gone 3-1 and they were dogs in every game.

3. Washington Capitals

Stanley Cup Odds: +900
Record: 16-4-4 (+$559) / 14-10 ATS
Previous Rank: 2

The Caps went 2-1 this week and posted a small ML betting profit. WAS are allowing 3 GA/G (14th), but they’re scoring 3.63 GPG (2nd). Ovi leads the team in goals (15), while Carlson leads in points (36).

4. Colorado Avalanche

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 13-7-2 (+$459) / 13-9 ATS
Previous Rank: 6

The Avs are on a 5-2 (6-1 ATS) winning streak. COL have one of the top scoring offenses (3.55 GPG - 4th) and they’re also one of the top defensive units in the league (2.91 GA/G - 9th).

5. Edmonton Oilers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 14-7-3 (+$392) / 12-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 3

The Oilers had a rough week, going 1-2 with both losses coming as favs. EDM have been one of the top teams on the powerplay (31.4 PP% - 1st) and on the penalty-kill (87.7 PK% - 2nd).

6. St. Louis Blues

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 14-4-5 (+$309) / 10-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 7

After losing three games in a row, the Blues are on a 2-game winning streak. STL are getting it done on DEF (2.61 GA/G - 5th), but they need to produce more offensively (3.04 GPG - 15th).

7. Ottawa Senators

Stanley Cup Odds: +30000
Record: 11-11-1 (+$266) / 12-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 13

The Sens have been flying up our rankings the last couple weeks. OTT have won three in a row and 7 of their last 9 games. Since they’re dogs most nights, it doesn’t take many wins to turn a profit.

8. Arizona Coyotes

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 13-8-2 (+$241) / 15-8 ATS
Previous Rank: 8

Arizona have the best defense in the league right now (2.26 GA/G - 1st), however, the OFF continues to struggle (2.7 GPG - 25th). If they don’t scoring more, the Yotes will be a team I’ll be fading.

9. Dallas Stars

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 13-8-2 (+$202) / 13-10 ATS
Previous Rank: 14

The Stars are on a 12-2 run and they’ve won on the puckline (ATS) in their last 10 games. There’s no team on a better run right now. The OFF has awaken and they rank #19 in scoring (2.87 GPG) now.

10. New York Rangers

Stanley Cup Odds: +6000
Record: 9-9-2 (+$139) / 10-10 ATS
Previous Rank: 9

The Rangers rank #10 in scoring (3.25 GPG), but they allow 3.5 GA/G (28th). Until they figure out the problems on defense and in goal, the Rangers are a tough team to predict on a nightly basis.

11. Boston Bruins

Stanley Cup Odds: +750
Record: 14-3-5 (+$74) / 11-11
Previous Rank: 12

The Bruins have been the best team in the NHL. Boston are scoring 3.55 GPG (4th) and allowing just 2.36 GA/G (2nd). They also have one of the best powerplay units (30.9 PP% - 2nd).

12. Florida Panthers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 12-5-5 (+$59) / 10-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 19

Florida have been the highest scoring team in the league (3.68 GPG) and they have been great on the powerplay (25.4 PP% - 5th), but they allow too many goals (3.50 GA/G - 28th).

13. Montreal Canadiens

Stanley Cup Odds: +3000
Record: 11-6-5 (+$41) / 11-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 5

The Canadiens went 0-3 this week, including a loss to OTT (2-1) as a -195 fav. MON went from +$341 last week to +$41 now. They’re still 3rd in the Atlantic, but the DEF needs to improve (3.09 GA/G - 19th).

14. Philadelphia Flyers

Stanley Cup Odds: +3000
Record: 11-7-4 (+$35) / 10-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 10

Philly snapped a 4-game losing streak with a win over CAR (5-3) on Thursday night. The Flyers allow 2.91 GA/G (9th) and they rank #6 on the penalty-kill (84.6 PK%), but the OFF has struggled.

15. Carolina Hurricanes

Stanley Cup Odds: +1600
Record: 13-8-1 (+$18) / 9-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 15

Carolina had a 4-game winning streak snapped against PHI, but the Hurricanes are playing great. CAR have one of the top offenses (3.45 GPG - 7th) and Aho (11G) has finally started to heat up.

16. Vancouver Canucks

Stanley Cup Odds: +3300
Record: 11-8-4 (-$96) / 11-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 16

The Canucks are on a 2-7 run and need to turn things around quickly. Vancouver are scoring goals (3.22 GPG - 12th) and have been great on the powerplay (27.1 PP% - 4th) this season.

17. Pittsburgh Penguins

Stanley Cup Odds: +2200
Record: 12-7-4 (-$157) / 10-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 17

Pittsburgh went 2-2 this week with both losses coming against the red-hot Islanders. The Penguins have dealt with injuries, but still rank #8 in scoring (3.35 GPG) and #5 in goals against (2.61 GA/G).

18. Buffalo Sabres

Stanley Cup Odds: +3300
Record: 10-9-3 (-$166) / 11-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 11

The Sabres have lost 9 of their last 10 games. Buffalo are playing like expected at this point and I’m not confident they’ll be able to turn things around. They’re only scoring 2.77 GPG (22nd).

19. Columbus Blue Jackets

Stanley Cup Odds: +8000
Record: 9-8-4 (-$195) / 10-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 25

Columbus have won three games in a row and the offense has started producing. CBJ still average just 2.62 GPG (28th) and they’re allowing 3.24 GA/G (21st). I expect CBJ to start losing again soon.

20. Los Angeles Kings

Stanley Cup Odds: +17500
Record: 9-12-1 (-$219) / 9-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 27

The Kings have won 4 of their 5 games and they’ve been dogs in 3 of those victories. Goal scoring has been at a premium (2.64 GA/G - 27th) and the powerplay has been brutal (11.3 PP% - 30th).

21. Tampa Bay Lightning

Stanley Cup Odds: +850
Record: 10-7-2 (-$226) / 6-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 18

The Lightning rank #3 in goals scored (3.58 GPG), but they rank #24 in goals against (3.37 GA/G). This week they went 1-2 and lost to WPG (4-3) as a -235 fav. TB are a good team, but not great to bet on.

22. San Jose Sharks

Stanley Cup Odds: +2800
Record: 11-11-1 (-$247) / 8-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 26

The Sharks are on a 7-1 run right now they’ve been better on both sides of the puck. SJS still only average 2.83 GPG (20th) and 3.43 GA/G (25th), but things are looking much better in California.

23. Chicago Blackhawks

Stanley Cup Odds: +3500
Record: 9-9-4 (-$276) / 11-11 ATS
Previous Rank: 24

The Blackhawks are a middle of the road team. The goaltending has been good, though. CHI are allowing a league-worst 36.8 SA/G, while only allowing 2.95 GA/G (12th).

24. Anaheim Ducks

Stanley Cup Odds: +4000
Record: 10-10-3 (-$282) / 11-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 20

The Ducks biggest problem is the lack of offense. Anaheim are scoring 2.74 GPG (23rd) and they’ve been terrible on the powerplay (11.7 PP% - 29th). The Ducks aren’t going anywhere this season.

25. Minnesota Wild

Stanley Cup Odds: +10000
Record: 9-11-2 (-$492) / 9-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 30

Minnesota’s schedule has eased up a bit and they’ve been piecing some wins together. MIN are still allowing 3.27 GA/G (22nd), but they’ve been great on the penalty-kill (83.3 PK% - 8th).

26. Nashville Predators

Stanley Cup Odds: +1400
Record: 9-9-3 (-$534) / 8-13 ATS
Previous Rank: 21

Nashville are scoring 3.52 GPG (6th), but they’re giving up 3.43 GA/G (25th). The team is on a 6-game losing streak and they’ve been absolutely blown out in three of those losses, which is concerning.

27. Detroit Red Wings

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 7-14-3 (-$570) / 12-12 ATS
Previous Rank: 22

The Red Wings are one of the worst teams in the league this season. They’ve lost 4 games in a row. DET rank #30 in goals scored (2.42 GPG) and #31 in goals against (3.75 GA/G).

28. New Jersey Devils

Stanley Cup Odds: +5500
Record: 7-10-4 (-$591) / 6-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 28

The Devils are only scoring 2.43 GPG (29th) and allowing 3.57 GA/G (30th). Hall is leading the team in points (18), but he has only scored 3 goals all season, which isn’t going to get it done.

29. Vegas Golden Knights

Stanley Cup Odds: +900
Record: 11-9-4 (-$613) / 9-15 ATS
Previous Rank: 29

VGK have been one of the best teams when not at even strength. The Golden Knights rank #9 on the PP (22.8 PP%) and #4 on the PK (86.6 PK%), but they need to improve when at even strength.

30. Calgary Flames

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 10-12-3 (-$718) / 8-17 ATS
Previous Rank: 23

The Flames are on a 6-game losing streak and have fallen way down our rankings. Calgary have had the worst offense in the NHL (2.4 GPG), despite all of the talent they have upfront.

31. Toronto Maple Leafs

Stanley Cup Odds: +1200
Record: 10-10-4 (-$801) / 8-16 ATS
Previous Rank: 31

The Maple Leafs fired Babcock and then snapped a 6-game losing streak with a win in Arizona. This is a talented team and I’m eager to see if they can go on a run after the coaching change.
