The Tampa Bay Lightning are once again at the top of the heap and going nowhere. They are here to stay for a long time to come. This team has broken out of its early going woes and they have proven just how good they are.

This weekend features the NHL All-Star game and hockey takes a break for a couple of days. Enjoy the All-Star game and regenerate the batteries and come back strong. The second half of this NHL season is going to be spectacular and there will most likely be more than a few surprises.

The good news, practically every team is back and on a healthy track, nobody has excuses here and it’s time for the proven teams to step and take charge. Like we said, there are bound to be a few surprises along the way and the bottom feeders are probably there to stay. The NHL is a fast game and the numbers change constantly. As a bettor, do yourself a favor and carefully follow the numbers here at the bottom. The Underdogs are winning and they are not letting up. The money is definitely not on the favorites. Bet carefully, budget carefully and the second half of this season will more than stack up in your favor. There is a lot of money to be won if you stay faithful to the cause, but you must be persistent.

Do not get caught up in the playoff race and regular season records. This is a big mistake when betting the NHL. There are more than a few teams that are terrible against the spread but will probably make the playoffs. Such as the Rangers, the Hurricanes and the Stars.

There are more than a few teams that come in from week to week as a “don’t touch” bet. These are the teams that simply have no value either way. Some of the teams may be on the rise and some may have fallen off but there are many that are simply not worth the risk. Be sure and take a close look at the middle teams that have no value and lay-off of them entirely.

Every fan wants to know where their team stands and if their team deserves attention from a betting standpoint. Can you find value and if so why? What these rankings are meant to do, is show betting fans the current-weekly state of affairs for each NHL team. This weekly power ranking is not based on the popularity of the team and not necessarily based on record. Although the record is a factor; the money lines from the oddsmakers are a much more important factor. What those teams did for the week against the money line is the ultimate deciding factor in the NHL weekly-betting, power ranking.

We hope that you enjoy the weekly ranking and we welcome your feedback and any comments that you may have. Remember, these power rankings are for the current week in the NHL and they are not individual game previews. These rankings are meant to show overall betting-performance.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning

Odds: +300
Record: 37-10-2 SU and 34-12 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 1st

The Lightning is a hot team going into the break and they are a guaranteed winner in the second half of this NHL season. If you are serious about winning money then stick with the Lightning. This team is the sure thing. Every team has their ups and down from time to time and even the Lightning will lose one here and there but count on this team down the stretch.

2. Calgary Flames

Odds: +650
Record: 33-13-5 SU and 33-18 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 2nd

The Flames just keep ramping up the offense and they are proving their worth in the number two spot. They are right there with Tampa in the win column but six games off in the loss column. They continue to be a great bet, count with this team and add them to your portfolio, it’s a must.

3. Winnipeg Jets

Odds: +900
Record: 31-15-2 SU and 30-17 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 3rd

The Jets keep winning and they keep staying right here in the third spot. This team has found it’s niche and they will be tough going into the second half of the season.

4. Toronto Maple Leafs

Odds: +1000
Record: 30-17-2 SU and 30-19 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 4th

Toronto picked it up ever so slightly with a big 6-3 victory over the Capitals and that helped them stay here at the fourth position. They are still a good bet. They may not prove to be great in the playoffs but they will certainly make you money.

5. San Jose Sharks

Odds: +1200
Record: 29-16-7 SU and 29-23 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 6th

The Sharks have moved up nicely for the last few weeks and they continue to beat the spread. They are a solid bet and you can count on them as a top-five team.

6. Nashville Predators

Odds: +1000
Record: 30-18-4 SU and 29-22 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 7th

“The Predators, Ha! We have no idea at this point!” And we still don’t after a loss to the Florida Panthers. They are a talented team, we know that for certain but can they finish strong? We have no idea. At 29-22, they are a solid bet against the spread and will continue to be as long as they stop losing to people such as Florida! Stay with them, give them a chance to win you some money.

7. Columbus Blue Jackets

Odds: +2000
Record: SU 28-17-3 and 28-20 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 5th

The Blue Jackets shoot down the ladder two spots but still come in at 8 games over .500 ATS. They are still a solid bet in our opinion.

8. Vegas Golden Knights

Odds: +1200
Record: 30-18-4 SU and 29-22 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 8th

The Knights are a tough team and they will be right back in the playoffs. They are, however, not the most reliable team against the spread, they are a bit hit and miss at this point.

9. New York Islanders

Odds: +1600
Record: 29-15-5 and 27-20 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 9th

The Islanders are staying right here but that’s ok. They are still a very good hockey team and should be given consideration on a slow betting night.

10. Montreal Canadiens

Odds: +2200
Record: 28-18-5 SU and 26-23 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 12th

“Montreal is getting better and last we said they would not make you rich. They will, however, win you money and if you like hard-hitting hockey then this is the team to watch. These guys bring it and if they keep bringing it, they will move up this ranking.

11. Boston Bruins

Odds: +1800
Record: 27-17-5 SU and 26-22 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 10th

The Bruins are not that great. They are ok if this is the only game of the evening and you want to spend a couple of bucks for fun. Do not bet serious money on this team. They win, they lose and they can’t be counted on down the stretch.

12. Pittsburgh Penguins

Odds: +2000
Record: 26-16-6 SU and 25-22 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 11th

The Penguins are too inconsistent for sharp players to want anything to do with them. Will they make noise in the playoffs? Probably. Will they make you a boatload of money, probably not. Stay away.

13. Minnesota Wild

Odds: +3300
Record: 26-21-3 and 25-24 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 15th

The Wild are proving they will not come through in a pinch. They are a miserable team to bet on and they will probably take your money faster than paying you. Betting against them is probably the better way to go.

14. Washington Capitals

Odds: +1800
Record: 27-17-6 SU and 24-23 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 13th

The Cap’s keep falling and they are getting worse by the minute. They need this break. This team is a mystery at this point. Who knows what they are going to do. Our money simply can’t be shipped their way.

15. Dallas Stars

Odds: +3300
Record: 24-21-4 SU and 24-25 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 14th

The Stars are a stale hockey team and they are much like the Wild; boring. They give us no reason for confidence and they are not a team to be trusted with anybody’s money. They will continue to win a few and continue to lose a few but who really know in the long run. Don’t waste your money at this point.

16. Carolina Hurricanes

Odds: +4000
Record: 24-20-6 SU and 23-26 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 17th

The Canes stepped up and improved their status somewhat. They are getting better as time goes by but still not a great bet for or a great bet against. It’s much more advisable to lay off this team and see where the chips fall in a couple of weeks. We like the improvement, but we don’t trust them with our money.

17. Vancouver Canucks

Odds: +4000
Record: 23-22-6 SU and 22-28 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 19th

The Canucks are actually showing some promise of getting better and had a much better week than the week before. They are however a better bet against than for and at this point, one should be worried about handicapping their opponents rather than handicapping them. Really, handicap well and you could win some nice change against this team.

18. Colorado Avalanche

Odds: +3300
Record: 22-20-8 SU and 22-28 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 18th

The Av’s are a huge disappointment at this point but at the same time, this is not really a surprise. This team played over their heads for the first half of the season and it has caught up with them. They are rebuilding and counting on them to win money, mmmm don’t!

19. St. Louis Blues

Odds: +6600
Record: 22-22-5 SU and 22-27 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 21st

St. Louis picked it up. The minute we badmouth a team, they must listen to our advise and take it personally because this team clearly seemed more motivated this week than they have been in a while.

20. Buffalo Sabres

Odds: +3300
Last Week's Rank: 16th
Record: 24-18-6 SU and 21-24 ATS

The Sabres took a dump and they are now back to being the Sabres of the last few years; bums! This team showed so much promise to open the season and now, nothing! Stay away completely, this team is simply not worth the hassle.

21. Arizona Coyotes

Odds: +6600
Record: 23-23-4 SU and 21-27 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 22nd

The Coyotes move up one notch and this means nothing! Really, don’t bet on this team if you value money. They are too inconsistent for any kind of bettor to take a risk.

22. Edmonton Oilers

Odds: +5000
Record: 23-24-3 SU and 20-27 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 20th

The Oilers took a dive again and this is also no surprise. This team has some talent but for the most part, they are in disarray. Do not count on them for one thin dime, they will fail you. Bet against this team, that’s the better option.

23. Los Angeles Kings

Odds: +25000
Record: 20-26-4 SU and 19-30 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 24th

The Kings have not improved enough for us to say stop betting against them. They simply cannot get their act together and they are miserable. Oh so they won a game, well luck for the one person that had some money on them. stay away and/or bet against.

24. Ottawa Senators

Odds: +25000
Record: 19-26-5 SU and 19-31 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 23rd

Ottawa falls again and this time it’s just one position but it shows exactly what you should do with these guys—bet against them. Remember, the home dog is winning a lot of games this season so be sure and handicap wisely. Teams don’t like to be embarrassed at home.

25. Anaheim Ducks

Odds: +5000
Record: 21-21-9 SU and 18-30 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 25th

The Ducks are a disaster and getting worse with each passing moment. Do not bet them if they are the last NHL team in the NHL! Really folks, just lay off the Duck. They need to have a fire sale and have it quickly and regroup.

26. Florida Panthers

Odds: +8000
Record: 20-20-8 and 17-29 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 27th

“The Panthers stay right here. Keep betting against them and keep watching that Savings account grow. There was some spark but not much.” They may find a spark after the all-star break but it’s doubtful. Be cautious either way.

27. Philadelphia Flyers

Odds: +25000
Record: 19-23-6 SU and 17-29 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 28th

The Flyers move up again but they are still a great team to bet against. Keep this team and every other team from here to the bottom of the pack; keep them high on your betting list of teams to bet against.

28. Detroit Red Wings

Odds: +25000
Record: 19-25-7 SU and 17-32 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 29th

The Red Wings will continue to fail if you let them do it. Do not bet on them for one second. Steer clear and if anything bet against them with wild abandon. This team can make you money, know your opponent.

29. New Jersey Devils

Odds: +25000
Record: 18-23-7 SU and 17-30 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 26th

Bet against the Devils because they are an awful NHL team. No team has lost their way quicker than these guys and they continue to be a train wreck. Betting big against these guys will make you wish there were more team like this to bet against.

30. Chicago Blackhawks

Odds: +25000
Record: 18-24-9 SU and 17-33 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 30th

The Blackhawks are not moving up the ladder anytime soon. Find some money from any source available to you and bet the farm against these guys!  They are even worse than the Devils.

31. New York Rangers

Odds: +8000
Record: 21-20-7 SU and 16-27 ATS
Last Week's Rank: 31st

The Rangers are still at the bottom of the pack and after winning three games against the spread last week, we thought it was smoke and mirrors, it was exactly that. This team is not getting better and they are much to far in the hole to crawl out. They will jump up and win a game from time to time so be sure to handicap the opponent closely. The Rangers are exactly the kind of home dog, that covers.
