2018-2019 Scores&Stats NHL Betting Power Rankings: Week 23
by Brad Mullins Scores & Statson
In the NHL, there are more than a few teams that come in from week to week as a “don’t touch” bet. These are the teams that simply have no value either way. Some of the teams may be on the rise and some may have fallen off but there are many that are simply not worth the risk. Be sure and take a close look at the middle teams that have no value and lay-off of them entirely.
Every fan wants to know where their team stands and if their team deserves attention from a betting standpoint. Can you find value and if so why? What these rankings are meant to do, is show betting fans the current state-of-affairs for each NHL team. This weekly power ranking is not based on the popularity of the team and not necessarily based on record. Although the record is a factor; the money lines from the oddsmakers are a much more important factor. What those teams did for the week against the money line is the ultimate deciding factor in the NHL weekly-betting, power ranking.
We hope that you enjoy the weekly ranking and we welcome your feedback and any comments that you may have. Remember, these power rankings are for the current week in the NHL and they are not individual game previews. These rankings are meant to show overall betting-performance.

Odds: +250 Record: 52-13-4 SU and 43-16 ATS Last Week's Rank: 1st
The Lightning has lost one but come in with an 8-2-0 record over the last ten games. This team has found a consistent formula for winning and it all starts with the bargain basement price of $9.5 million per season. Nikita Kucherov was a steal, and no matter what this team does, no matter what they touch, it turns to gold. This team has the Midas Touch, and nobody will catch them.
Odds:+900 Record: 42-17-9 SU and 36-26 ATS Last Week's Rank: 5th
The Bruins are fantastic, and nobody has turned it around more than these guys. This team has literally gone from boring, to big-time contenders. The Bruins can win it all and they will be right there with the best of the best. They will battle anybody that comes along, and they really have nothing more to prove in the regular season. The playoffs will be the test and we think they can go deep.
Odds:+900 Record: 41-19-8 SU and 37-27 ATS Last Week's Rank: 4th
The Sharks have proven to be a good bet all season long and they are now proving themselves to be one of the best teams going into the final stretch. This team has guts! Martin Jones is proving his worth and the entire organization is once again coming together and making a push down the stretch. Watch out for this group of guys, they just might be drinking from the silver cup.
Odds:+1100 Record: 42-21-5 SU and 39-25 ATS Last Week's Rank: 3rd
The Maple Leafs are still a team on a mission and with names such as Mitchell Marner, they will remain a force. The question is, can they keep him? We have repeated the same mantra for weeks now, “focus”. “stop the madness, and play hockey”.
Odds:+1400 Record: 38-26-5 SU and 31-31 ATS Last Week's Rank: 16th
The Knights are so lovable, and we do love them! This team is fun, energetic, and not going back to the Stanley Cup! They are scoring a ton of points right now and beating their opponent like a used set of brake pads. Bet them now but use caution later. This is 2019, not 2018.
Odds:+2500 Record: 36-26-7 SU and 32-30 ATS Last Week's Rank: 14th
The Canadiens have become what they had hoped to not become; middle of the road team that can’t find their way out of the doldrums and now it’s too late. They will go .500 the rest of the way but don’t count on much beyond that.
Odds:+2000 Record: 36-25-7 SU and 33-29 ATS Last Week's Rank: 10th
St. Louis is dead! That’s what we used to say… Can they make a legit cup run? Maybe, don’t count this team out of anything. They are better than we thought. Sorry about that Blues, we owe you an apology! This team is a worthy look at any betting option.
Odds:+2500 Record: 38-27-3 SU and 36-27 ATS Last Week's Rank: 6th
“The Blue Jackets are a good hockey team” … is what we said last week. It’s true, they are a good hockey team, the problem is this; they are not good enough. There are too many other great teams and too much competition in the East. They are not going far. They will, however, keep games close and could keep things highly interesting down the stretch and into the first round.
Odds:+3300 Record: 35-28-5 SU and 32-32 ATS Last Week's Rank: 17th
The Stars are not the worst team in the NHL and they are playoff bound but does this make them a good bet? It does from game to game because they have found a formula that works in division play, will it translate? No, Caution! They have no defense, betting the over is a great play.
Odds:+3300 Record: 33-28-8 and 30-33 ATS Last Week's Rank: 16th
The Wild are not an unmitigated disaster, but rather a confusing team. They win, lose win, lose and then go 6-2-2. That means they were a great bet. Will they stay that way? Who knows? They are much to unpredictable to want to lay our money on them.
Odds:+15000 Record: 28-32-9 SU and 24-38 ATS Last Week's Rank: 24th
The Canucks are awfuller than we thought and yes, we know that’s not a word! This team just leaves us in this tongue twisted state. At 2-6-2, this team is a spread nightmare but a spread dream if you are going the other way.
Odds:+25000 Record: 25-35-9 SU and 24-39 ATS Last Week's Rank: 25th
The Devils have certainly not made a pact with their namesake! If they have, then they should sue, because they have been screwed! This team is still awful and still a great team to bet against, whether it’s the puck line, the money line or the three-way line; they are getting beat and that’s what matters.
Odds:+50000 Record: 23-40-6 SU and 22-32 ATS Last Week's Rank: 26th
Ottawa has gone 1-8-1 since we last spoke, and they are even worse than we had given them credit for. This team is dreadful and have been officially eliminated from the playoffs. What does this mean? Watch out for them as spoilers, but probably not.
Odds:+100000 Last Week's Rank: 29th Record: 24-36-8 SU and 21-41 ATS
LA is 24-36-8 overall and 1-7-2 in the last ten games. A month ago, this team had a very outside chance at the playoffs but now; nothing. This team must rebuild, or they will be bad for a long time to come.
