The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to a three-year, $8.4 million, the club announced Thursday.
Gavrikov, 24, recorded 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) with 18 penalty minutes in 69 games with Columbus last season. He led all Blue Jackets rookies in assists and time on ice (18:59) and ranked second in points and shots on goal (81), while finishing tied for sixth among NHL rookie defensemen in goals and points and tied for seventh in assists.
"Vladimir Gavrikov was everything we hoped he would be during his rookie season last year, establishing himself as a top four defenseman in the National Hockey League," general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. "He is still a young player that we expect will get better every year and continue to be an important part of our blueline."
The 6-foot-3 Gavrikov was selected by the Blue Jackets in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL draft.
