The Montreal Canadiens agreed Friday to lend Jesperi Kotkaniemi to a Finnish club for the start of its 2020-21 season.

The 20-year-old forward will rejoin Montreal in time for training camp for the NHL's 2020-21 campaign.

Drafted No. 3 overall in 2018, Kotkaniemi has registered 42 points (17 goals, 25 assists) in 115 career games for Montreal. He added four goals in 10 games during the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.

The native of Pori, Finland, is rejoining his hometown team, HC Assat Pori Oy, in the Finnish Liiga. He played in 57 games for the club in 2017-18 and tallied 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists).
