Capitals' Alex Ovechkin becomes fourth to score 750 goals

Washington's Alex Ovechkin scored his milestone 750th National Hockey League goal early in the second period of Saturday night's game against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ovechkin is just the fourth player to reach the milestone, joining Wayne Gretzky (894), Gordie Howe (801) and Jaromir Jagr (766).

Ovechkin, a 36-year-old Russian, took a pass from defenseman John Carlson in the neutral zone on a three-on-two break, skated over the blue line on the right wing and put a wrist shot from just outside the faceoff dot past Columbus goaltender Daniil Tarasov, a countryman making just his second NHL start, and inside the far post at 3:12 of the second to give the Capitals a 2-0 lead.
