Tatjana Maria booked her spot in the quarterfinals of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Slovakia qualifier Viktoria Kuzmova on Wednesday.
Maria was one of three players to advance to the quarterfinals, joining Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Romanian qualifier Mihaela Buzarnescu. Bencic overcame a poor second set to earn a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Spain's Lara Arruabarrena while Buzarnescu battled back after dropping the first set to Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic to post a 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory.
Bencic, a former World No. 7, won four straight games in the third set after suffering an early break and earn her second three-set win in as many matches at Linz.
Buzarnescu, 29, will make her top-100 debut next week after knocking off Tomljanovic. Buzarnescu will be facing Bencic for the first time.
Germany's Carina Witthoeft earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Austria's Barbara Haas in other Wednesday action and Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic earned the upset of the day with a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 6 seed Czech Katerina Siniakova.
