San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Gilbert Fuentes is recovering from surgery to repair a broken clavicle.

The injury occurred during an accident at the 18-year-old's home and the operation was performed Thursday by Dr. Richard Gayle at Sutter Health, according to the team.

A native of Tracy, Calif., Fuentes signed a multi-year contract with the Quakes on Oct. 31, 2019. He originally signed as a homegrown player in January 2018 at age 15, making him the youngest player in club history at the time.

Fuentes, a regular with the United States national youth teams, made his MLS debut in 2018. He made 11 appearances on loan at USL Championship affiliate Reno 1868 FC in 2019.
