Austin FC defender Ben Sweat will have surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.
The 29-year-old was removed from the field on a stretcher in the first half of Saturday's 3-1 win at Colorado after a collision with Rapids forward Michael Barrios.
Sweat played in 94 matches for Inter Miami CF (2020) and New York City FC (2017-19) before joining the expansion MLS side, tallying one goal and 11 assists.
Austin also announced that midfielder Ulises Segura underwent a successful surgical procedure on his left knee.
Segura, 27, did not appear in Austin's first two games this season. He spent the last three seasons at D.C. United and registered five goals and three assists in 66 matches.
Regarding the recovery timelines for both players, the team said Sweat will miss "an extended period of time" and Segura's return to play will be determined by his response to treatment and therapy.
