D.C. United defender Kofi Opare underwent season-ending surgery on his left foot, the team announced Friday.
Opare's recovery time is an estimated four to five months, according to the club.
Opare, 28, was scoreless in 11 appearances this season. He has played in 65 matches (62 starts) since joining D.C. United during the 2014 season and has three goals and one assist.
Opare also played in 12 games (11 starts) over parts of two seasons for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He had one goal for LA.
D.C. United close the regular season on Sunday against the host Chicago Fire. D.C. has already clinched a playoff spot.
