DC United forward Wayne Rooney was arrested in Northern Virginia in December, according to police records.
Rooney, 33, was hit with a public swearing/intoxication charge and released after paying a $25 fine and $91 in court costs.
The former England captain and Manchester United star joined DC United in June on a three-and-a-half year deal.
According to a statement from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, Rooney was originally arrested by Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority officials.
"He was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Centre on 16 December 2018, on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police (MWAA)," the statement reads.
Rooney had an immediate impact in his first season with DC, scoring 12 goals in 20 regular season appearances and helping spark a turnaround that landed DC United in the playoffs.
