The Chicago Fire signed midfielder Javier Casas to a homegrown player contract on Tuesday.

Casas, 16, became the 17th homegrown signing in club history and second in as many days. The Fire signed midfielder Brian Gutierrez, also 16, to a contract on Monday.

Casas played the past six seasons with the club's youth affiliate Fire Juniors and the Chicago academy, starting 64 of his 65 appearances.

"Javier has shown tremendous upside as he has been training within the first-team throughout the 2020 season," Fire coach Raphael Wicky said in Tuesday's release. "His soccer IQ is beyond his years and our staff is looking forward to working with him to continue his development in a professional setting."
