The defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew made their forward group deeper and more dangerous with Thursday's signing of free agent winger Kevin Molino.
The 30-year-old is coming off one of the best seasons of his MLS career, as he tallied nine goals and four assists in 18 games (15 starts) with the Minnesota United in 2020.
Molino has 32 goals and 27 assists in 104 MLS games over six seasons with Orlando City (2015-16) and Minnesota (2018-20). He gives the Crew plenty of options on the wings, with Pedro Santos and Derrick Etienne Jr. already part of the Columbus roster.
"Throughout his time in this league, Kevin Molino has been one of the most talented and explosive wingers in Major League Soccer, and he proved that not only throughout the 2020 regular season, but most recently when it mattered most, in the playoffs, on a team that was minutes away from an MLS Cup final," Crew president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. "Kevin will bring individual game-changing ability, with his smart and technical play, which will aid in our team chemistry with our other top quality attackers. Kevin has also consistently produced goals and assists -- a critical asset from the wide position."
Molino's nine goals last season tied him for seventh in MLS. He added four more goals in three appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs before Minnesota fell to Seattle in the Western Conference finals.
